He is the Lotus eyed One- Lord of Thirukkudanthai

Divya Desam – where Cool River flows [wherein good

fragrant long haired women take sacred bath]. He is

the Lord [those days] who aimed divine chakrA to cut

and destroy the one whose mind desired [lustily for]

the breast of the most divine Periya PiraaTTi, wearing

bangles in her resplendent hands.

Some scholars say that this pAsuram [first two lines]

refer to RamavathAram. rAvaNan’s ten heads strength

was mentioned in last verse. In this verse his most

cruellest asahyApachAram (act of terrible grave

blunder) of desiring for PiraaTTi is mentioned.

Angered on his daring thought and act, the Lord had

sent “the chakrA” [Aazhi” ] to kill the raakshasa.

AzhwAr says “yeRindha aazhiyaan”. Where does chakrA

come in Ramayana? One may wonder. All weapons are

chakrA’s amsa can be a justification. Or it can mean

also the arrow sent by Rama [who is aazhiyaan-

ChakratthAn- the one who holds ChakrA- i.e.

mahAvishnu]

Or since Rama avathAram has already been touched upon

in the last verse (56), here it may mean

KrishnAvathAram. SisupAlan longed desirously for

Rukmini piraTTi and he was killed by the Lord aiming

chakrA on his head when he {sisupAla) continued to

tell names on KrishnA.

The most fragrant long haired women take sacred bath

in the river without even bothering about their hair

getting spoiled by the bathing… They are so devoted to

Thirukkadanthai maal. Also scholars say: madanthai

means: ladies at Paramapadham- they come down to

Thirukkudanthai for paying their obeisance to perumAL.
