The T'venkatam Group members in Kuwait assembled at SrimAn IVK Chary's residence for a memorable evening of 'vedam' and Sahasranamam and divya-prabhhandham 'pArAyaNam'. However, for me personally, the day was rather special in an unusual sort of way. On his return from a recent trip to India, Sri Chary brought back with him 'tirumann' -sticks ("urdhva-pundhra") from the great temple-town of TirunArAyaNa-puram (Melkote). He was kind enough to gift me a few such "tirumann" sticks for my use. Y/day, as I was applying the "tirumann" (just before leaving for the 'sravanOtsavam' at Chary's house), it struck me momentarily how truly very fortunate I was in being able to hold the blessed 'tirumann', the sacred limestone soil, from Melkote within my palms! For all I know, I thought to myself, this "tirumann" that I held now in my palms and applied to my forehead, might well actually have been trodden upon, many ages ago, by our beloved 'AchArya', Sri RamAnujA himself! I knew I was merely fancying myself in a world of imagination and probability. And yet, on a blessed day like yesterday's asterism of 'sravaNam', I found it difficult to resist the temptation to revel in the secret sentiment that, thanks to a little "tirumann" stick from Melkote, I was perhaps blessed indeed with the "pAda-sparsha" of my 'AchArya', Sri RAmAnujA! It was pure fancy, no doubt, but what glorious fancy!
