Adiyen follows Sri Desika Sampradayam. Adiyen is having a doubt about

the differnce in number of times of prostrating by people following

Vadakalai and Thenkalai sampradyam. Vadakalai people prostrate twice

or four times etc. where as Thenkalai people do it only once or

thrice. Adiyen will be obliged if swamin can explain the

significance/meaning and differnce of prostrating between these two

sampradyams.

Dear SrImathi Geeta Chakravarthy :

Similar questions have come to moderators over

the past few years. There is genuine interest on

the part of VaishNavaas .

There has been some reluctance to discuss these

topics in an impersonal medium like the internet .

One's own AchAryAs are the best source for

clarifications on the main and subtle points.

Both the SampradhAyams are like the two eyes

for a VishNavan. Both have to be revered and treasured.

We are all Raamanuja DaasAs.

I suggest that we keep these discussions off line .

There is an excellent chapter in the recently released

book by SrIman Anbil Swamy on this topic. He walks

a very careful line to sumamrize at a high level

about the 18 differences between the two sampradhAyams.

Please refer to that book ( Pages 692-706).

With best wishes ,

V.Sadagopan

Re: Number of times of prostrating - differerence

I would also like to request the erudite group to give a brief

overview on Thenkalai and Vadakalai sampradayams. When and how the

deviation started? What are the key differences and why (in rituals,

practice, temples devoted to each, etc.)
