Guest guest
Dear SrI Prem: On our foreheads , the symbol of ThirumaNN represents the two (sacred ) feet of the Lord and MahA Lakshmi present in between as SrI ChoorNam. On Lord's (archA Moorthy's) forehead , You will see either Tilakam or ThirumaNN . Tilakam is for alankAram (decoration ) for PerumAL . If ThirumaNN is seen on the archA Moorthys , it certainly does not represent Lord's feet on His own forehead . It represents however the upward (Urdhva) aspect symbolizing the upper supreme abode of His (SrI Vaikuntam ) . It is the desirable goal for the bound chEthanams (Bhaddha Jeevans) . Here at SrI Vaikuntam , He resides as SrIman NaarAyaNa ( Parama Padha Naathan) with His divine consort , MahA Lakshmi (the Yellow or red SrI ChoorNam ). SaasthrAs weigh however in favor of yellow SrI ChoorNam over the red version . There are a lot of PramANams for the wearing of Hari Paadha AakAram on one's forehead ( AtharvaNa Vedam , Smruthis , PurANams , MahOpanishad , Kada Saakai vachanam/ "dhruthOrdhva PuNDram " ). The adornment of the ThirumaNN increases our Daasathva Jn~Anam ( we are servitors to the dhivya dampathis always ). The performance of Japam ,dhyAnam and Homam performed without adornment of Urdhva PuNDram will not yield the desired phalans . Such performances will yield in anarTams. This is backed up by BhOdhAyana , PaarAsarya SamhithA , SrI Naaradheeyam et al . Guest guest
Dear Swamy, Pls accept adiyen's dendan samarpanum. With this regard, i have another question. The " Manjal srichoornam " is not available in all places. One swamy hence suggested me to use plain turmeric powder mixed with a little sandal paste, since plain turmeric does not stay on the forehead for long. Is it right for SriVaishnavas to use this combination ? Adiyen, Ramanuja Dasan Sadagopan [sgopan] Friday, June 11, 2004 3:21 AM Oppiliappan Cc: Sgt; RC Re: Perumal's Symbol "Thirumann": Why ? Guest guest
Dear Devotee: The red SrI ChoorNam is made by mixing crushed dried Manjal with lime . I am not sure how ManjaL Sri ChoorNam is made . It must have a neutral binder to make it stick. The RanganAtha Temple at Pomona , NY can help you temporary supply until some one from India can help you secure the supply from Melkote or ThiruvallikkENi . The addition of small amount of Sandal paste to help bind the Turmeric powder is a clever idea . You can use red SrI ChoorNam until you get authentic Yellow SrI ChoorNam form one of the above sources. Best Wishes , V.Sadagopan - "M Rajesh-A18107" <rajeshm <Oppiliappan> Friday, June 11, 2004 2:26 AM RE: Perumal's Symbol "Thirumann": Why ? > Dear Swamy, > With this regard, i have another question. You can seach them from google. Also there is a article on thirmaN in detail at malolan.org/trk35.htm that mama wrote as a part of Rathnangi kaimkaryam.
