Guest guest
THE CYNOSURE OF ALL THE EYES Sri Sadagopan iyengar swami recalled and reminded us the episode of kUni and swAmi nam-piLLai' commentary. I am reminded of the same commentary where swAmi nampiLLai's states " pOm pazhi ellAm amanan thalaiyilEA" Wherever there is a mistake it is attributed to a jain sanyAsin. The anecdote of a poorly constructed wall is narrated here where the builder, mason, the lady who made the mixture were all summoned. Each of them blamed the other. The potter then was summoned and the size of the mixing pot -of the mortar- was blamed. The jain sanyAsin who was nearby the pot making place was finally blamed at for having distracted the whole process. Since, he kept quiet, the whole blame fell on him. Similarly, Lord KirshNA who is the victim rather than the inflictor of victims, is ever at the receiving end. This pAsuram is no exception. Reasons and logic is attributed to finally bring the ultimate aim to Lord KrishNA. No, it is not just this commentary alone which makes me think and write so. periAzhwAr thirumozhi categorically and distinctly states so. "pallAyirvar ivvUril thEmai seivArgaL, ellAm un mEal anRip pOgAdhu empirAn nE ingEa vArAi" 2-8-5; There are so many people who do mischeif. Alas! every such mischeif is attirbuted to You. Sri periAzhwAr's divine words are not unfounded. Sri AndAL in thiruppAvai 12 " thennilangai kOmAnaich seRRa manathukku iniyAnai pAdavum" All the disciples are approaching Lord krishNA. LO! they are talking high of sri rAmA as the sweet one for the mind. What a pity? Does it stop here. No. Having not met the goal i.e not having had the divine meet with Lord krishNA this goes on "peNNIn varutham aRiyAdha perumAn" nAchiyAr thirumozhi 13-1; Here the accusation is the Lord who does not appreciate the feelings of women. This is again reiterated in the next thirumozhi "puRam pOle vuLLUm kariyAnai" 14-7; The Lord who is not just black outside but also dark inside. Does anybody needs more brickbats than this? A pity indeed. What does swAmi periya vAchAn piLLai state in periya thiru mozhi 9-4-5 "puLLAni emperumAn poi kEAttirundhEanEA" 'rAmAvathArathil meiyyum, krishNAvathArathil poyyumiREA namakkuth thanjam" Our refuge is the truth in the rAmA's incarnation and the lies of krishNA's deeds. Well. What does it lead to? All these acccusations and brickbats are out of immense love and affection. The informal relationship permits such a close and free mixing of souls. In fact, only because of such a great auspicious quality does these words emanate. The eagerness to meet the Lord krishNA who has been the caretaker and protector of one and all, the Great Lord who descended to the clan of gopikAs, the formal who made Himself informal, indeeds makes Himself liked by one and all to the extent that the desire for Him became 'nam AzhwAr' who perhaps that is why in his thiru voi mozhi - 'kEatpArgaL kEasvan kErthi allAl maRRum kEatparO!' That is why Lord krishNA - kaNNA is THE CYNOSURE OF ALL THE EYES rAmAnuja dhAsan vanamamalai padmanabhan
