Guest guest
Post 4 Dear sri vaishNava perunthagaiyeer, We are reading, in this series, about different bhakthaas of my krishNa, addressing him "bhuvana sundharan, jagan mohana sundharan". In this group of bhakthaas now we will see one more bhakthaa addressing him "sundharan". Perhaps this bhakthaa went one step ahead of rukmini also, to call him "thri bhuvana sundharan. See his slOkam - asthOka smithabharam aayatha aayatha aksham nissEsha sthatha mrudhitham vraja anganaanibhi: | nisseemasthabagitha neela kaanthiDhaaram dhrusyaasam thribhuvana sundharam mahasthE || 1-28 krishNa karnaamrutham by leela sukhar meaning: hey krishNa, always I want to see such a krishna with * the lips full of that blemish less smile, * eyes fully spread or widely opened, * the body fully embraced by the girls of vraja clan - the gOpees, * that boundless sounded blue coloured body, * in all the three worlds 'incomparably beautiful'. In another slOkam same leela sukhar says 'jagath thraya vimOhanan' - or 'thraya jagath mOhanan' to put it correctly - samuchchhvasitha youvanam tharala saisava alankrutham madhachchhuritha lOchanam madhana mugDha haasaamrutham | mathikshaNa vilOkanam praNaya peetha vasee mukham jagathraya vimOhanam jayathi maamakam jeevitham || 1-87 krishNa karnaamrutham by leela sukhar meaning: let that beauty of krishNa which sustains me in this world be successful - that beauty * who has youth springing up * whose beauty of the childishness slipping away slowly * whose eyes shed the brimming youth * whose nectarian smile attracts young girls * who has constantly changing attractive eye glances / sights * whose mouth appears to drink the music from flute * who gets the three worlds charmed by his beauty Mother rukmiNee addressed "bhuvana sundharaa". Many followed the footsteps of her in enjoying my krishNa. But there may not be elaborate references available on how that krishNa reacted when he first saw rukminee, the matching or more beautiful than my krishNa. So after a good search on that see here - this "bhuvana sundharan's" reaction at that moment when he first saw rukmiNi. bhuvana mOhana roopa ruchaa thadhaa vivasitha akhila raja kadhambayaa | thvam api dhEva kataaksha vimOkshaNai: pramadhayaa madhayaanchakrushE manaak || - slokam 6 canto 79 naaraayaneeyam meaning: "that attractive damsel rukmiNi, whose bewitching beauty held all the assembled kings spell bound, did generate a trace of infatuation even in thee oh krishNa, by the frequent glances she cast at thee", says battathiri [because he was addressing krishNa straight and krishNa also reacted to battathiri as per the legend] That bhuvana sundharan is also infatuated / attracted by "her" beauty - she is named as "bhuvana mOhana roopa ruchaa", and thus krishNa got infatuated. Such is the beauty of mother rukmiNee. He is jagan mOhanan, she is bhuvana mohinee. A classy combination. Dear bhakthaas you may wonder what triggered this man to write on the beauty of krishNa - dhivya sundharam - [All the description in earlier three posts and the matter above] - is all a reaction of hearing these lines of thirumangai aazhvaar during a session of upanyasam - "Ovinallaar ezhudhiya thaamaraiyanna kaNNum Enthezhil aagamum thOLum vaayum azhagiyadhaam ivar aar". This "azhagiyadhaam" word is the kindler. To enjoy the full verse - here it is: muzhusi vaNdu aadiya than thuzhaiyin moim malark kaNNiyum mEniyanchaandhu izhusiya kOlam irundhavaarum enganam sollugEn Ovinallaar ezhudhiya thaamaraiyanna kaNNum Enthezhil aagamum thOLum vaayum azhagiyadhaam ivar aar kol enna attabuyakarath thEn enRaarE. 2-8-7 - thirumangai periya thirumozhi meaning: as given by sri madavakkannan swamy - The way His Thirutthuzhaay maalai (garland of thuLasi) dripping Honey, and bees drinking the honey and humming there, adorns His Chest, the grace and gorgeous Beauty of His ThirumEni, the decoration on the Chest with fragrant sandal paste on His large Chest, - How can I explain His Beauty! Those lovely large dark eyes which are like the Lotus flowers that have been painted by the artists; That broad chest, so bright and lustrous; those strong hug shoulders, that curvy bimbha fruit like mouth - "Who are You so Beautiful and gorgeous - so Divinely graceful?". He said "I am Thiru aattabhuyakarat thaan"- "thEn" - [message no 6946 dated 15.4.1999 in bhakti list ] the "mEni am chaandhu izhusiya kOlam" - the beautiful body covered with sandal paste, simply applied, with out any care - just see the word chaandhu izhusia kOlam. Colloquially our ladies ask one another if the other has not taken care while making up herself as - ennadi maiyai ippadi eezhiNdu vanthirukkE - hey what is this the black kajal is not applied properly. Same thing or still worse situation with that bhuvana sundharan - just applied sandal paste make up in a careless way - "chaandhu izhusia kOlam". May be Mr. Beauty does need any care to further up his beauty? Will it not be really another type of beauty for Mr. Beauty? See the comments of vyaakyaana chakravarthy - periya vaachaan piLLai - for this word izhusia - "angE ingE iLimbaagap poosugai anRikkE vENdum idangaLilE saaththina kOlam irundhapadi" - just not applied with care in places where required to enhance the appearance, but just carelessly dashed the paste here and there on the parts of the body. For he said as beautified with "sarva angE hari chandhanam" - the yellow sandal paste applied all over the body. See slOkam - kasthoori thilakam lalaata phalakE vaksha:sthhalE kousthubham naasaagRe navamoukthikam karathalE vENum karE kangaNam | sarvaangE hari chandhanam cha kalayan kaNtE cha mukthaavalim gOpasthree parivEshtithO vijayathE gOpaala chooDaamaNi: || 2- 108 leela sukhar meaning: In the broad and spread forehead - neRRi - musk mark. In the chest the green emerald stone kousthuBham In the nose tip new pearl stud In the hands the bamboo flute In the wrist or fore arms - bangles -kankaNam All over the body sandal paste nicely applied In the neck pearl jewel as haaram He is surrounded by gopa women - yaadhava women or girls Such a Krishna is victorious. Who is this person - that krishNa - the honey with 8 arms - attabuyakarath thEn. For he is thEn, that honey krishNa is sweet in any form whether made up with extra materials or accessories / features or not. Oh, dear krishNa, no need for any proper application to you - the improper application is yet another type of beauty for you. Dear bhakthaas, Let this new type of "beauty" prevail in the mind for all times to come. Dhasan Vasudevan m.g.
