Guest guest
Dear srivaishNava perunthagaiyeer, First of all please accept my sincere apologies for sending this post so belatedly. Due to certain commitments, I could not draft the post to serve you. May be somebody envied with my krishNa that caused this delay. First the meaning of this beautiful krithi of OVS with the undercurrent of envy over that achEthana vasthu - a bamboo flute of my krishNa.. raagam: aarabhi thaaLam: aadhi thaaLam pallavi: kuzhalE nee enna koduththu vaiththanaiyO gOvindhan unnai oodha engaL gOpaalan unnai oodha konji unai senthaamarai malar anna karam koNdu aNaiththida kuviyidhazh - adharam unadhiru amudhinai koLLai koNdavarai parugidavena [kuzhalE nee] meaning: hey flute, have you done many good deeds so as to that gOvindhan plays music with you. Our gOpaalan plays music with you. He embraces you first and then caresses you with his lotus like hands, those lips brought into cup shape so as to rob and suck and drink the nectar, which you contain. [see the possessiveness in claiming 'our gOpaalan' - it is not 'my gOpaalan' - but 'engaL gOpaalan' - the poet has joined the krishNa dhaasargaL koottam - congregation of servants of krishNa - so - engaL gOpaalan- the koodi yirundhu kuLirndhu principle of aaNdaaL on this day of thiru aadip pooram the birthday of aaNdaaL] [does this word caressing convey that meaning for konjudhal? Or is it embrace - then what is aNaiththida - also embrace may lead to thazhuvudhal. Or for konjudhal - is it 'love making' - that may lead to some other meaning? Or am I inadequate in my language proficiency - dear bhakthaas, give a word for that. May be krishNa - oh, you stop the thinking faculty inside - for your konjudhal with flute - our konjudhal with you - word's lose meaning when thinking about you and your deeds, and / or thinking lose track when emotions run high? - oh Krishna] ok any how - when it comes to krishNa - perhaps my dear bhakthaas can make what it is for konjudhal that too with the flute - even if they do not know the subtleties of tamil to that extent] anupallavi: kazhalO unakkenath thaaLangaL pOda adhaik-kaNdavudan amarargaL maa malar thoova mazhaiyO vandhadhu ena maa mayilgaL aada engaL manamO lajjaiyai vittu gajjai katti aada [kuzhalE nee] meaning: the anklets in his legs provide rhythm for you, hey flute, seeing this action of the feet of their lord, the gods in the sky shower big flowers, seeing that shower the peacocks dance as though it is raining, on seeing all these our mind shirking all shyness adorn the dancing bells in the feet and start dancing - all these because of you, hey flute, have you -- , (madhyamakalam) madhu maNandhu poraadhadhaagiya karu vaNdinam kaNdu indhaLam paada maazhai marakatham minnoLi iNaiyena vandhu vandhu balam unthu aravum aada gathi irandha maadhavar aanavar iLa kanniyar aaghavum thayir vilai koora kai aNaiththu mei aNaiththu kaadhal seivadhu enRu hariyOdum uravaada [kuzhalE nee] meaning: these black bees sing the paNN indhaLam - that happy music - forgetting their natural job of collection of honey, the young snake also started dancing because of its youth, and thinking that naaga rathinam and lightning both shine sparkling in parallel, the old people who were doing penance begging a route to liberation became young girls to call price ranges for selling curd, they also started joining hands in romantic mood to embrace hari -our lord - all because of you, hey flute, have you---. charanam: kONaamal naaNaamal maamalaith-thookki kudaiyaaghap-pidiththaan maamazhai neekki aanaalum inRu unai kaikku uRavaakki aanaanE mukkONan aavadharkkuL nOkki [kuzhalE nee] meaning: this gOpaalan lifted the hillock gOvardhanam as an umbrella with out shying or bending even a finger to save from rains. But, today he became thrice bent to make relationship with you through hand - hey flute have you --- Additional Points: 1. this envy with flute is simply reflects aaNdaaL's envy with sangu as already highlighted in previous post. 2. This envy over flute also leads to the taste / trace of periyaazhvaar's naavalam theevil padhikam - gOvindhan kuzhal kodu oodhina pOdhu - idhu oR arpudham kELeer - all sentient and non-sentient to change / lose their basic nature and go with the music from this flute - oh great - hey flute what is the great penance did you do to enjoy that proximity with krishna's lips. 3. see black bees sing indhaLa paNN - music forgetting their basic nature of collection of honey. 4. snakes dance when so many are near them doing some thing else thereby threatening their very existence - snakes have forgotten their basic nature of hissing and threatening others, but dancing in lightning and sparkle etc. 5. great personalities - maharishigaL - maa thavar - maa thvaththai udaiyavar - doing penance, they also lose their balance and start calling price of curd - this is a reflection of going into subtle detail of poorva jenmam detail of gopies - former rishis during raamaayaNa period in dhandaka vanam - now gopies - again their poorva jenma vaasanai also changed - to selling curd and enjoying Krishna and his embraces physically and mentally - all these because of you - oh flute. 6. he, who not even showed any tiredness even in his little finger for seven days who took the weight of the hillock gOvardhan - today became bent in three places - legs bent, waist bent, head bent - all to bear you - oh flute - to produce that kuzhal naadham - kuzhal amudham - that too amudhap punal as said by aazhvaar - Oh you great flute. 7. gathi irandha maadhavar - the maadhavan - krishNa who begs a route - calling them to enjoy with them - these girls who go selling curd - krishNa also begs to others - yes - with the gOpee girls- to get a ball of butter - to get a kiss from them - begging to mother yasOdhaa for not beating him for having stolen butter in other's houses - Oh the envy list goes up when thinking of their bhaagyam to enjoy krishNa. 8. this also brings to light the trio krithis bringing out undercurrent of the envy on the bhaagyam of yasOdhaa - enna thavam seidhanai of paapanaasam sivan, engum illadhoru pillai of OVS and paNNiya puNNIyam of ambujam krishNa. This was an article written in the list earlier. [added information is that this article of this writer is available as a three part write up titled enna thavam in www.karnatik.com <http://www.karnatik.com> ] Just roll in your mind, dear bhakthaas, then you will realize how great this krithi is. All because it is on krishNa and his flute music. Dhasan Vasudevan m.g PS: on this day of aadip pooram is it better to think aaNdaal only or her lover krishNa also. I am not finding an answer. You can add.
