As per the sthala purana it is customary to have darshan of Aadi

Varaha before Lord srinivasa. The Brahmandapurana, Varahapurana,

Skandapurana, Padmapurana describes this kshetra. Prasadam to lord

srinivasa is first offered to vraha perumal, It is said that

tirumalai symbolises the vedas and while tirumalai represents head

of adisesha, Ahobilam represents its trunk and srisailan represents

its tail. The names seven hills of tirumalai viz Venkatadri,

Seshachala, Vedachala, Garudachala, Vrishbadri, Anjanadri and

Aanantadri .

The Padma Purana states that scholars who were gathered in the Yaga

performed by Manu were discussing about the Supremacy among the

Trinity. The discussion soon turned into a dispute and sage Bhrigu

was asked to go in person to Kailasa and Vaikunta to find the fact

out for himself and for the benefit of mankind. However, when Bhrigu

went to Kailasa, the Lord was in a playful mood and was sporting with

Uma and did not pay attention to the sage. The sage cursed him and

went to Brahma-loka.

Now, the sage is the son of Brahma and naturally the Lord of Creation

remained in His seat and did not receive him, who has come on a

special mission. Sage Bhrigu could not take this insult and cursed

Brahma too and moved over to Vaikunta. Vishnu was in his all-knowing

sleep, which irritated Bhrigu. The sage in his rage kicked the Lord

in His chest and the Lord woke up to see the sage and got up to

receive him. He did not mind the sage kicking him in the chest and

the imprint of his foot stayed on His divine chest as the Sri-vatsa

sign.

Though the Lord could put up with this insult, Mahalakshmi who resides

in the chest of the Lord could not bear with this and left Him in her

anger. The Padma Purana says that the Lord, who was lonely, came down

to earth to stay in Seshachala. He married padmavathi, the daughter of

aksharaja. It is believed that the lord is repaying the debts till

date taken aksharaja and will continue to do so till the end of

kaliyuga

For long number of years the deity remained buried under the ground,

until King Tondaman, prompted by the fact that his cows returned home

dry, milked somewhere in the forest of their own, came to know of the

existence of the idol. The Lord became very happy after seeing the

temple constructed by Thondaman and hence the vimanam is named

Anandha Nilaya.

Tirumalai Nambi (Srisailapoorna), maternal uncle and one of the

acharyas of swami ramanuja did teerta kainkaryam here. Swami ramanuja

underttok 18 visits to tirumalai to learn Srimad Ramayana and

Saranagati tatwa . Sri Adivan satakopan constructed the steps to

tirumalai .

In Thayar temple there is separate shrines for krishna and Souriraja

perumal . The brahmotsavam is during puratasi at tirumalai and

Kaartikai at tiruchanoor

Tirupathi is about 11 kms from renigunta station on Madras – bombay

route and is well connected by rail and road
