The order followed seems to be south north east west. though it was supposed to be recited turning round oneself and offering namaskaram in the direction Being a staunch devotee of swami ramanuja, vedanta desikar also composed divyadesa mangalAshAsanam on the same lines as 'srirangamangalamanim' shlokam with one slokam each for koil, tirumalai, perumal koil and tirunarayanapuram and stating that yAdavAdri divyadesam and its prosperity was the choicest and the most cherished desire of swami ramanuja. The following lines are quoted from divyadesa mangalAshAsanam, for reference. 1) 'shamita vimatapakshAm shAshvatIm rangalakshmIm.'(Koil) 2) 'shriyamupachinu nityam shrInivAsa tvameva.' (tirumalai) 3) 'hata ripujana yogAm hastidhAmna ssamriddhim.'(perumAL koil 4) 'yati paribriDha hridyAm yAdavAdre ssamriddhim.'(tirunarayanapuram) Swami Ramanuja used specific qualities of the Lords in the 'sriranga mangalamanim' shlokam. mangala manim and karuNAnivasam for SriranganAtha. kALamegham for Srinivasa, pArijAta (kalpavriksha) for varadarAja and deepam for tirunarayana. it is seen that the epithets used here have been specifically used by purvacharyas and Alwars and also followed by the succeeding acharyas also as can be seen from several quotations below. aNiyAr poLil aranganagarappA maNiye manimANikyame madhusUdhA.(kaliyan) mannum arangattem mAmaNiyAI. (Poihai Alwar) (Lord tiruNarayana is a selfluminous deepam) 'kOmin tuLAy muDi Adiyamshodi guNamgalE. (Satagopan in oru nayakamAy)' Surprisingly, the following passage in guruparamparA prabhAvam proves the devotion of Emberumanar to Selvappillay. It is also understandable because Swami was very grateful to that Lord for having triggered the redemption of all the 4000 nalayiram through 'ArAvamude'-knowing srivaishnavas of melukote. Vaduka nambi used to refer to Kurattalwan and Mudaliyandan as double-bankers (iru-karaiyar) as they used to recite and rely on both emberumanar tiruvadihale saranam and namberumal tiruvadihale saranam. But none would monopolise and be as cordial as vaduka nambi reciting 'emberumanar tiruvadihale saranam'; as Parasara bhattar reciting 'alagiya manavala pperumal tiruvadigale saranam'; as Ananthalwan reciting 'tiruvengadamudaiyan tiruvadihale saranam'; as tirukkachchinambi saying 'pEraruLALar tiruvadihalE saraNam'; and as Emberumanar would recite 'selvappillay tiruvadigale saranam'!!! Another evidence for IDupADu' or endearment of tirunarayanapuram to Swami Ramanuja can be seen in the following episode which made Swami desikan to use the term 'yatiparibriDha hridyAm' for yAdavAdri in divyadesa mangalAshAsanam. We should not forget that selvappillAY is the son of swami Ramanuja and YadugirinAchchiyAr is the daughter-in-law. swami Ramanuja got the satisfaction of coronating his son with VairamuDi which Dasharatha had missed and repented. When EmberumAnAr gave a discourse on Yadavagiri mAhAtmyam, when explaining the meaning of 'ananta: prathamam rupam lakshmaNastadanantaram; balabhadrastritIyastu kalau kaschid bhavishyati', referring to the fourth quarter 'kalau kaschid bhavishyati' swami told MudaliyAnDAn and other listeners that he himself was the indicated and intended object of that quarter. Another passage below, from guruparamparAprabhAvam explains the significance of the four Divyadesams which has prompted Ramanuja to compose the shlokam in that order of divyadesams. "Koyilukku pradhanyam ettale ennil tiruppanalwarodu kalandu parimaruhaiyale. Tirumalaikku pradhanyam kurumbarutta nambikkum tondaiman chakravarthikkum vArtai aruLichchAidu kalandu parimAruhaiyAle. Adiyen has been reciting this slokam from child hood. As far as Adiyen knows, the first sentence "Srirangamangalamanim" should be "Srirangamangalanidhim".
