Guest guest
"kAyA vEAngai/pAyA vEAngai" In tamil when a word of same meaning is expressed a suitable adjective is added to indicate the correct meaning. For example, the word 'vEAngai' in tamil has got more than one meaning. One is the vEangai tree. Another is tiger. Hence, when the word 'vEangai' is mentioned to mean tiger- an adjective like kAyA vEangai - The vEangia which will not flower i.e .Tiger, is spelt out. If vEangai is mentioned to mean the tree- pAyA vEangai is mentioned..meaning that the vEangai which will not jump. In the seventh pAsuram of second thiru-mozhi , thiurmangai AzhwAr mentions both the 'vEangai' and adds suitable adjective for both in the first and second line of the pAsuram. "kAr koL vEangaigaL kanavaraith thazhuviya kaRivaLar kodi thunni, pOre koL vEAngaigaL punavarai thazhuviya..." 1-2-7; thiruppiridhi dhivya-dhEsap padhigam. the first vEangai is preceded by the adjective kAr-koL indicating the tall trees touching the skies. the second vEangai is preceded by the adjective pOr-koL indicating the fighting nature of the tigers. Wonderful ! isnt it? (to be continued) vanamamalai padmanabhan
