Guest guest
THE PYTHON PARADOX The dark clouds were dense in the sky. These were threatening to transform into big downpour. The confrontation of these clouds resulted in a big thunder and the sounds reverberated throughout. The python-s large in size -larger like elephants- sounding like elephants- mistook the sounds for the elephants and advanced, as if to have a tryst with the elephants and devour them. It is true that pythons swallow everything. Can they swallow elephants also? Well ! these are forest and mountain pythons and going by the colour, size and appearance they mistake the thunderous clouds for elephants and advance to meet the elephants. This is narrated by sri thirumangai mannan in thirup-piridhi dhivya-dhEsam in the final pAsuram of the second thriu-mozhi in the first ten. Guest guest
Dear swAmi, The vyAkyAnam for the pAsuram "kariya mA-mugil padalangaL kidandhu, avai muzhangida, kaLiRu enRu periya mAsuNam variaiyena peyar tharu, piridhi..." 1-2-10; is '..malaikkuch siRappuch sollumavargaL, malaip-pAmbugaL yAnaiyai vizhungum, ennak kadavargaL, AgaiyAl kariya mAmugil padalangaL kidandhu muzhangiRavaRRai periya-mAsuNamAnadhu , Anaiyai buddhi paNNi AmishArthamAga malai pEArndhAr pOle, kAl vAngi vandhu .....AgaiyiREA periya mAsuNamenRadhu-Anaiyai vizhungumpadiyAyiRRu idhinudaiya perumai iruppadhu'. A crude translation : " Those who mention the speciality of mountains, say that pythons are capable of swallowing even elephants. Therefore, the blank clouds and the sounds emanating from these are mistook this for elephants and muster themselves as hill to devour... That is why these are termed as 'periya-mAsuNam'. The nature and speciality of these pythons lies in swallowing the elephants' Normally, when clouds and lightning occur, the serpants take refuge in their holes. However, these pythons dare out in numbers as if to devour the elephants. That is the paradox. rAmAnuja dAsan vanamamalai padmanabhan - Sadagopan Oppiliappan ; ramanuja ; vanamamalai ; divya desam Monday, September 06, 2004 12:02 AM Re: Peep into Peirya-Thiru-mozhi -7 Dear SrI Padmanabhan : May I request you to give the English Meaning of Swamy PeriyavAcchAn PiLLai's vyAkyAnam quotations for the benefit of those who do not read Tamil and for those who speak Tamil but yet can not comprehend the complex meanings of the brilliant commentary .
