Dear srivaishNava perunthagaiyeer,

 

We saw the coverage on 'mother one' - the poothana episode as in periya

thirumozhi from thirumanagai aazhvaar. As said earlier, though this 'mother one'

episode is one of many incidents in krishNa's early life, many a references are

available in 4000 and among krishNa bhakthaas.

 

Now let us see Ooththukkaadu Venkata Subbu iyer - OVS mahaan sings this poothana

episode in his krithi

 

pallavi: (raagaa: naatai)

 

sree gOvindha naama sankeerthanam sreemadh bhaagavatham seivadhOr

adhbhutham thaaraka naama padham dhaamOdhara naama padham jana ranjana [sree]

 

[meaning: sing gOvindhaa's name as music, that wonder which comes from sreemadh

bhaagavatham, that name which saves lives, that name of dhaamOdhara, that name

liked by many - sing that name of gOvindhaa]

 

anupallavi:

aaghaak-kamsan aRiyaadhE arum siRaiyil avathaaram aanadhE

aanaka dhundhubikkum dhEvakikkum aaRu kadandhida onRum maaRa

aayaRp paadiyil nandha yasOdhaikkum aaRu kadandhida onRum maaRa

pEy ena vandhidu poothanaikkum oru pizhai thiruththi pErinbam aagha

pinju padhaththinai konji udhaiththida podipadu sakataasuran theera - sree

 

{meaning: hey, that kamsan did not know

- that the child is born in prison, to that aanaka dhundhubi - viz. vasudhEvan

and dhEvaki,

- by crossing the river one changed position to yasOdhaa and nandha in

aayarpaadi,

- by crossing the river one changed position to [prison - the yoga maayaa later

dhurga],

the demon poothana who came also got herself corrected and enjoyed the bliss by

that correction given [correction here is the connection with krishNa],

the cart wheel asura became powder by that soft tender feet of

- such a krishNan - sing that gOvindha's name]

 

[Note: the pallavi and anupallavi alone is taken up here for they have reference

of the topic being discussed and hence included. Since this krithi has 5 quite

lengthy charaNams about other 'kaNNan baala leelaigaL', they are not being given

Point: That gOvindha corrected the mistake of 'mother one' by giving her an

opportunity to have physical contact with him thereby she was blessed with bliss

- the mOksham.

 

Before taking up other aazhvaars, we will see just one last line from periya

thirumadal from thirumangai aazhvaar:

 

kOvaloor mannum idai kazhi em mayavanaip pEi alaRap pinnum mulai uNda piLLaiyai

- 66 [to that lord who is in thiruk kovaloor - lord dhEhaLeesan - the demon

screeched, screamed and howled, when he ate milk from her breasts ]

 

Now we can enjoy periyaazhvaar ['mother yasOdhaa' aazhvaar] - dealing with this

episode on 'mother one':

 

piRangiya pEichchi mulai suvaiththu uNdittu

uRanguvaan pOlE kidantha ippiLLai - 1-2-5

[this child appeared to be sleeping after having tastefully enjoyed the breasts

of the demon who changed her form from demon to beautiful woman and was shining]

 

nachchu mulai uNdaai thaalElO naaraayanaa azhEl thaalElO -1-3-8

[hey naaraayaNaa go to sleep, without weeping, go to sleep for you had tasted

poisonous breasts]

 

vanchanaiyaal vandha pEichchi mulai uNda anjana vaNNanai - 1-3-10

[this dark hued boy who ate from the breasts of the demonness who came with

vengeance]

 

vaanavar thaam magizha van sakatam uruLa vanchamulaip pEyin nanjamadhu uNdavanE

- 1-5-4

[hey Krishna - the dhEvaas from heaven were happy to see, the mighty wheel

rolled to destruction by your kick, you eat poison from the wicked breasts of

the demon]

 

uLam thottu iraNiyan oN maarvu agalam piLandhitta kaigaLaal

kottai chappaaNi, pEi mulai uNdaanE chappaaNi 1-6-9

[hey krishNa play the clapping with your hands that measured the breadth of

chest of hiraNyan by touching his heart and breaking it, play the clapping of

hands - hey you ate the breasts of demon]

 

pEip paal mulai uNda piththanE kEsava nambee - 2-3-1

[hey kEsava - hey mad fellow - who drank milk from breasts of demon]

 

pEichchi mulai uNNak kaNdu pinnaiyum nillaadhu en nenjam

aaichchiyar ellaarum koodi azhaikkavum naan mulai thandhEn - 2-4-3

[mother yasOdhaa says - these gOpees women collected themselves and called me

seeing you getting fed from breasts of the demon, so I rushed to feed you

properly from my breasts as mother of you]

 

vanjap pEi magaL thunja vaai mulai vaiththa piraanE - 2-4-4

hey lord - you placed your mouth on the breasts of that wicked demon girl thus

killing her]

 

mun vanja magaLaich chaavap paal uNdu sagadu iRap paaindhitta dhaamOdharaa -

2-4-12 [hey dhaamOdharaa -krishNa - earlier you by eating milk to her death from

the wicked girl, also leapt on the cartwheel getting it broken]

 

pEyin mulai uNda piLLai ivan munnam maayach chakatam iRuththavan 2-5-2

[hey this boy is the fellow who ate the breasts of demon, that magic cart wheel

breaker]

 

kanchan kaRukkoNdu ninmEl karuniRach chemmayiRp pEyai

vanchippadhaRku viduththaan enbadhu Or vaarththaiyum uNdu - 2-8-6

[hey krishNa - please be careful - there is a word - that kamsan wanted to take

vengeance on you - by sending a black coloured demon to cheat you and kill you

who is also red haired]

 

piLLai arasE nee pEyaip pidiththu mulai uNda pinnai - 2-8-7

[hey king child - or child king - after you caught hold of the demon and ate

from her breasts]

 

thaLLith thaLar nadaiyittu iLam piLLaiyaai uLLaththinuLLE avaLai yuRa nOkki

kaLLaththinaal vandha pEichchi mulai uyir thuLLa suvaththaanaal - 2-10-6

[pulling her to ground, that demon, then crawling like a child, seeing her mind

thoroughly to realise her wickedness, for what purpose she has come, so sucked

and tasted her breasts so that the life itself just wagged and left her]

 

minnEr nuNNidai vanja magal kongai thunja vaai vaiththa piraanE -3-1-1

[hey lord - you put your mouth on the breasts of that wicked beast changed her

as the girl whose slender waist was shiny like a lightning]

 

van pEi mulai uNdadhOr vaai udaiyan 3-5-9

[hey one who has a mouth which ate the breasts of a demon]

 

polla vadivudaip pEichchi thunjap puNar mulai vaai madukka vallaanai - 4-1-6

[one who is capable of mouthing the breasts of wicked demon in such a way that

she will realize her life being sucked out]

 

after seeing the daddy we will now go to his daughter - aaNdaal - not much is

available except two references.

 

piLLai ezhundhiraai pEi mulai nanju uNdu - thiruppaavai 6

[hey girl - get up - are you not listening to that hari's name who also ate the

breasts of demon].

 

vanjap pEichchi paal uNda magimaiyilee - 3-9 naachchiyaar thirumozhi

[hey - one who is having a lot of fame as having eaten milk from a demon's

breasts]

 

dear bhakthaas, we will see more references on this 'mother one' episode from
