The office-bearers of the Devanathan Ratnangi Kainkarya Committee, led by V. Sadagopan, handed over the ratnangi (precious gem-studded golden outfit) to Ravindran, Executive Officer of Sri Devanatha Swamy Temple at Tiruvaheendrapuram, near here, today. The Rs. 30-lakh ratnangi, made in eight parts — tirumarbu, tiruvaadai, sangam, chakram, abhaya hastam, varada hastam, gadai and tiruvadi— was adorned to the presiding deity in the evening. According to the committee secretary, V. Srikanth, the ratnangi was made with donations from devotees in the country and abroad. The driving force behind the project was Mr. Sadagopan. Under the initiative of one of the vice-presidents, Padma Veeraraghavan, it got shape. She contributed the proceedings from her music concerts to the project. The attire was designed and crafted by the Nagercoil sthapathi, S. Muthusamy, with silver plate as the base, and 22-carat gold foils, studded with 2,500 rubies, 500 pushparagams, and 450 maragathams. It took two years for five artisans to complete the task. The committee president, Mohan Parasaran, the vice-president, Ramakrishna Reddiyar, the secretaries, Devaki Santhanam and M.K. Srinivasan, and the treasurer, V.N. Venkatanathan, were present.
