Guest guest
Dear Devotees of Lord Venkatesa : There is a question from a devotee from Canada about the significance of lighting Maa ViLakku for Lord VenkatEsa during PurattAsi Saturdays and partaking that Prasaadham. This tradition observed by Aasthika ladies has deep roots in Param JyOthi Tatthvam of SrIman NaarAyaNa celebrated in the Upanishads and Draavida Vedam of AzhwArs . Some of the citations are: " Param Jyothi : or Supreme Light as per ChAndhOgya; JyOthishAm JyOthi: as per Mundakam ( the Light of Lights) . To salute Him , the shining One by whom every thing shines as a result ( Tameva bhAntham anubhAthi sarvam tasya bhAsaa sravam idham vibhAthi -- Mundakam : II.2.10) . Lord SrinivAsan is saluted as Malayappa Swamy or the Lord and Supreme Light on top of Saptha giri . When a small mount of Maavu with ghee and Vellam is made and a wick is placed on top and lit , we are paying homage to this Param JyOthi as the Jagath JyOthi protecting us . The articles on SravaNa dheepam cited below will shed additional light on the significance of the JyOthi Tatthvam of the Lord (Brahman) celebrated in the Upanishads . Namo SrI VenkatEsAya , V.Sadagopan P.S: Please perform 108 AshtOtthara NaamArchanai for Lord VenkatEsa on this special occasion .
