Guest guest
Dear BhakthAs: Today (Sep 24) is PurattAsi SravaNam day is Sukla Paksha EkAdasi day as well .Today is the birthday of Swamy Desikan as well . Five years ago , adiyEn returned from a trip to India and soon after had a mysterious fever . The Doctors were unable to determine the cause of it and I stayed in the hospital for two weeks . While there , I prayed to SrI RanganAtha Paadhukais and made a sankalpam to translate all of the 1008 SlOkams of SrI RanganAtha Paadhuka Sahasram (RPS) from the source grantham of Vaikunta Vaasi SrI UtthamUr Swamy's scholarly commentary . The son-in-law of UtthamUr Swamy , Sri KaraLapAkkam KrishNan Swamy had lent me the library copy of this treatise . After adiyEn made that Sankalpam , the fever went away and adiyEn came home and in a month's time adiyEn was blessed to fulfill that Sankalpam . UtthamUr Swamy's commentary is extensive and scholarly for each of the 1008 slOkams . The goal was to summarize UtthamUr Swamy's anubhavam of each slOkam into one succinct paragraph . It was a tough task that got completed with AchArya anugraham . By this time , some one presented me with the exquisite two volume commentaries of SrIrangam Srimath Andavan's commentaries on Sri RanganAtha PaadhukA Sahasram . Dr.V.N.VedAntha Desikan's commentaries in English and Tamil for each of these slokams were released by LIFCO . A dear sishya of Pundarikapuram SrImath Andavan , Dr.Muralidhar Rangasway joined me to publish one slOkam of RPS per day . Dr.Rangaswamy would post the slOkam and its meaning by Dr.VedAntha Desikan and adiyEn would add footnotes for that slOkam consisting of three parts: (1) UtthamUr Swamy's anubhavam , (2) SrImath Andavan's anubhavam and (3) additional commentary on the individual words or groups of words chosen by Swamy Desikan during His inspired moments of composing this Mahaa Kaavyam less than 2 hours in front of Lord RanganAtha at Srirangam . It took five years for both of us to complete this Kaimakryam .Sri Achutha Raaman of Bangalore created a special web site and it was supplemented by the archives : http://www.ibiblio.org/sripedia/oppiliappan/archives/mrps/threads.html Sri Achyutha Raaman's web site can be accessed with a Google query on " Padhuka+sahasram ". It is very important to see the PaadhukA Yanthram hand drawn by Swamy Desikan Himself on this sacred day : http://swamydesikan.tripod.com/yantra.html As adiyEn stood before Lord RanganAthan's sannidhi , a flood of memories associated with the likhitha Kaimkaryam swept before my mind's eyes . adiyEn will share some of them with you all tomorrow. adiyEn's special thanks to Sri Muralidhar Rangaswamy of Boston and Sri Achutharaman of Bangalore for their joint contributions to this Kaimakryam over the past five years .
