Sri Alavandhaar's SthOthra Rathnam- verse 10- with You as Bhaktha vathsalan, is it a surprise that You shower us with Your grace

SrImathE Gopaladesika mahadesikaya namah:

 

Dearest Srivaishnavas,

 

Immersing himself in praising the Lord, and when

marvelled at the huge task, he started to get away by

fearing that he may not be able to complete or do

justice to His anantha kalyANa guNAs, and due to His

kataaksham and grace Alavandhar continues his praise;

and is now firm to let it continue. When Arjuna

started to get out of the battle, He mercifully looked

at him and similarky with His kataaksham, Alavandhar

asserts himself to continue. The reason for his

steadfastness is due to His dayA alone and due to His

Asritha vaasthsalyam.. and hence when Alavandhar

says.. starting (sthowmi) to praise You, he does not

belive that he is the karthA as swathanthran

(independent); but starting with saatvika thyAgam

(that it is being commenced by You with yoiur grace

and will be completed by You with the same dayA of

Yours).

 

With the puNya papa, He grants fruits; and He blesses

us the devotees with further more such kaimkaryam due

to His greatest grace (vaathsalyam) on them; And

continuing the praise (sthOthra) is due to this

vaathsalyam.

 

naavEkshasE yathi thathO bhuvananya mooni

naalam prabhO bhavithumEva kutha: pravrtthi:

yEvam nisarga suhrdi tvayi sarvajanthO:

swAmin na chithramidham Asritha vathsalathvam [10]

 

PrabhO! SarvEshwaraa! Lord! The Granter of fruits! If

You do not bless [us] with Your benevolent glances and

grace [kataaksham], if there is no sankalpam (will) of

Yours, all these worlds would not even have strength

for function; how can there be any action at all!

Thus, on all beings (sarva janthu) You have, by Your

nature, love and affection.. and to such greatest You-

it is not at all surprising and no wonder that You

have such compassion and grace on Your devotees with

tremendous vaathaslyam on them..

 

The essential nature, the continuance of nature and

the functioning of all entities are dependent on the

essential nature of the Lord and the sankalpam of His.

All these entities are existing is their nature only

on account of the existence of the Lord. The

functioning of all entities is dependent on the

sankalpa (will) of ParamAthmA.

 

If you do not cast your glances on the world, the

world can not even function; it would not even have

the power to exist; there can be no development

further at all; Thus it is natural for You to cherish

those who are devoted to You and You have greatest

affection and love on them.

 

Some keep on thinking and doing only bad things for

others without any reason or cause. It is their

nature. Even they, when someone takes refuge in them,

would still do good to them and take care of them;

they would show love and affection on them. When such

is the case, You are SarvEshwaran, You always think of

good to everyone and every being at all times by your

very nature. There is no wonder in that. Not just my

sthOthram and act of praising You; everyone’s action,

including the funcition of the worlds, is all due to

Your sankalpam and Your kataaksham alone. Especially

when one ios devoted to You, Your bless them naturally

with Your vaathsayathvam to increase their devotion

multifold. yE bhajanthi thu mAm bhakthyA mayi thE

thEshu ChApyaham.. Your bhaktha vaathsalyam is thus

declared. Similar to Your blessing Dhruvan for

praising You, there is no wonder in blessing me with

Your kataaksham. Here along with kaaraNathvam,

Niyanthruthvam, Suhruthvam, Swamithvam, Alavandhar

enjoys His vaathsalyam.. as well. That is how one

should enjoy when uttering Dwaya mantra and

contemplate on its meaning.
