Dearest Srivaishnavas,

Thus having mentioned that Vedas point out to You only

As Supreme Lord, now Alavandhar takes on epics and

puraanas wherein also Sriman Narayana Paratvam is

clearly established.

vEdApahaara gurupaadhaka daitya peedaadiaapad

vimOchana mahishta phalapradhaanai:

kOnya: prajApati pasupathi paripaati kasya

paadOdakEna sa siva swasirOdhrthEna [13]

the Vedas were snatched away; one of father’s heads

was plucked off and the grave sin was committed; the

troubles of HiraNyaakshan, Basmaasuran and torture by

them; - from all these dangers, who saved from all

these dangers and grants all grandest fruits as well?

Who else saves thus even Prajaapathi, Pasupathi and

others? By sprinkling and retaining waters [that

washed whose feet] Sivan gets his mangaLam and

auspiciousness? [For all these queries, it is only

Sriman Narayanan].

Prajaapathi, Pasupathi- Pasu is also a praja; One

should not think that these BrahmA [Prajaapathi] and

Rudra [Pasupathi] are the masters. Rudran is not the

master of BrahmA; as BrahmA himself is rudra’s father.

BrahmA is also yet another Prajai (being); Rudra is

also a pasu; thus they themselves can not be masters;

They [are just like other beings] enjoy the fruits of

their puNya and paapams. Thus those who says Vishnu’s

duty is only protection should know that protection of

these two as well namely BrahmA, Rudra… There shall be

absolutely no doubt or confusion about the same.

Why and how? Rakshanam –protection- is removal of

hurdles and granting fruits and good.. It is You,

Sriman Narayana, who saved them from their dangers..

Firstly, when BrahmA was created and you instructed

him with Vedas for enabling him with creation of other

beings. The Vedas were snatched away by the asurAs by

name Madhu, Kaitabhars. BrahmA went to the Lord and

cried for saving him and Vedas; You killed the asurAs

[taking Hayagriva form] and got back the Vedas; taught

BrahmA again and blessed him.

BrahmA’s one of the heads was plucked off by his son-

Rudra [during one incident] thereby the grave sin was

committed by Rudra and the skull got stuck to his

palm. He went begging with that skull to fill the same

[in order to get rid of that skull, thereby the mahaa

paapam. It was You who filled that skull taking a drop

of blood from your divine chest. Thus Pasupathi was

removed and cleansed off his brahma hartthi dhOsham

[mahaa paapam]

According to PurANams , Lord ShivA acquired Brahma

Hatthi DhOsham by plucking one of the five heads of

BrahmA . He punished BrahmA for lying that he saw the

face of Lord ShivA , when he presented Himself as

LingOthbhavar. Lord ShivA got mad and as a punishment

plucked the fifth head of BrhamA , who in our

sampradhAyam is the father of Lord ShivA . That fifth

head (skull ) got stuck in the hand of Lord ShivA and

He had to go from place to place begging for food with

that kapaalam.

Now returning to our story , Lord ShivA wandered with

stuck skull in hand and ultimately reached KandiyUr

divya Desam ( Kantana Puram in Sanskrit). Here Rudran

did penance and offered His worship to Sriman

NaarayaNan and took a dip in the PushkariNi and with

the Lord's blessing , the stuck kapAlam eased itself

from his hand . As a result , the BhagavAn here is

known today as Hara Saapa VimOchana PerumAL and the

PushkariNi is recognized as Kapaala ThIrtham .There

are two versions on how the kapAlam got unstuck. One

in which , Bhagavan makes a slit in His chest and

directs the blood pouring out into the Kapaalam until

it is full and that did it.

The basmaasura incident is also known to all; and it

is You who saved Rudran from basmaasuran.

These incidents are described in Saatvika puraanas and

Mahaabharathams. Thus Rudra became Mahaadevan [deva of

devaas] by performing Sarvamedha yaagam and getting

the blessings of You- Narayana. It is Vishnu’s grace

that he is Mahaadevan and Rudra himself knows that

always and quite well.

The message that Rudra is below BrahmA is very clear

from Thrivikrama avathAram- from the way he had the

waters in his matted locks and was blessed by those

holy waters that BrahmA used for offering and washing

the lotus feet of the Lord that rose upto Brahma

lOkam. Srimad Bhagawatham mentions: paadhOdhakEna

vidhrthEna siva: sivObhUth. Srimad Ramayana too

annotates this incident. Thus Sriman Narayanan is

SarvEshwaran who saves all; who grants fruits to

everone right upto BrahmA, Rudra et al. Thus BrahmA,

Rudra et al are also samsaaris- like all jeevathmaas.

Such danger- hurdle- has it ever happened the Vishnu

and these two have saved Him anytime- mentioned in any

ithihaasam? Never. Because He is SarvEshwaran;

Parathvam- Supreme Lord. Few avathArams may mention

granting an upper hand to them; that is also

supplemented by their praising Him after being blessed

with the opportunity. It is equal to Dasaratha,

Vasudeva becoming father for the Lord for an

avathAram. Does not eman Dasaratha is the Paratahvam.

Does it?

[what a manner in which Alavandhar so clearly

establishes Parathvam of Sriman Narayanan?]

Alavandhar ThiruvadigaLE SaraNam

Namo Narayana
