Guest guest
Dear Devotees, We should all be grateful to Shriman Sadagopan for bringing to our notice a treasure house of Carnatic Music Collection. Below is a copy of his posting in Oppiliappan List:: Thu, 23 Sep 2004 Sadagopan <sgopan (AT) computer (DOT) net>Extensive site for Carnatic Music LoversSrI: Professor Sivasubramanian RamanAthan of RPIhas kindly advised us of his extensive web sitedealing with Carnatic Music . I found the content mostvaluable . Please feel free to use them . The URL is:http://www.ecse.rpi.edu/homepages/shivakuma/personal/music/index.htmlThank you Professor Ramanathan for sharing this treasure !V.Sadagopan When I accessed the web-site (the correct URL of the Home Page is: http://www.ecse.rpi.edu/homepages/shivkuma/ ) I was stunned by the volume of the web-content. Prof. Shivkumar Kalyanaraman teaches networking and computer engineering courses in his University in USA and is engaged in research work in the area of computer networking, concentrated around the theme of traffic management and high performance wireless networking. He also guides research students for their Ph.D. One would think that this itself is work that must fill his whole day. But his interest in Carnatic music is so deep that he has devoted, perhaps, an equal amount of time to create this large treasure-house of Carnatic music literature/audio etc on the web which you have to see to believe. I tell my children/grandchildren that there is always time available to engage in many intellectual/spiritual pursuits in addition to the work/study they are compulsorily doing every day. Where there is a will, there is a way; or, as the sanskrit saying goes: yath bhavah thath bhavati. We have to make the determination. Prof. Kalyanaraman's music-related web-material are contained in the following sub-sites: http://www.ecse.rpi.edu/Homepages/shivkuma/personal/music/index.html http://www.ecse.rpi.edu/Homepages/shivkuma/personal/music/varnams/index.html http://www.ecse.rpi.edu/Homepages/shivkuma/personal/music/manodharma/index.html He has generously offered to give us a copy of the non-copyright material in 6 CDs for $36 or Rs.1,500/- The details are at: http://www.ecse.rpi.edu/Homepages/shivkuma/personal/music/background.html#cdrom May the tribe of Prof. Kalyanaramans increase and benefit the community. We need many more like him to spread knowledge relating to our culture and also to set an example for service to community.
