Here is the daily samarpaNam of 7 NaamAs

from Sri Lakshmi Sahasra Naamam saluting Her

Vibhuthvam and Jagath KaaraNathvam :

YasyAstE mahimAnam Aathmana

iva ThvadhvallabhOapi Prabhu:

nAlam maathumiyatthayA

niravadhim nithyAnukoolam svatha:

ThAmm ThvAm dhAsa ithi Prapanna

ithi cha sthOshyAmyaham nirbhayO

LokaikEswari! LokanATa dayithE !

dhAntE ! dayAnthE vidhan

 

Word by word Meaning :

LokaikEswari = Oh Devi , who is the only Iswari for the world !

 

LokanATa DayithE = Oh the dearest consort of the Lord , who

is the Swami of all the worlds !

 

DhAnthE = Oh the abode of abundant compassion !

 

Thvadh Vallabha: Prabhu: api = Your Lord even if He is omnipotent

and Omniscient

 

aathmana: mahimAnam iva niravadhim , svatha : nithyAnukoolam

iyatthayaa mAthum na alam = (He) is unable to assess and quantify

Your limitless auspiciousness , which is natural to You and which is

favorably disposed towards Him always. Just as He can not comprehend

the extent of His own mahimai , He is unable to establish the boundaries

of Your glories.

 

LokaikEswari ! LokanATa dayithE ! dhAnthE ! = Oh Consort of

the Lord , who is the sole Emperor of this Universe ! Oh the dearest

consort of that LokanATan ! Oh paripoorNa DayA Moorthy !

 

ThAmm ThvAm (ittham ) Vidhan , Nirbhaya: Dhaasa ithi ,

prapanna ithi aham sthOshyAmi = Knowing you thus ( as

the KaruNA Moorthy ) , adiyEn is going to eulogize You

without fear in my role as Your bonded servant and as one

who has performed prapatthi at Your sacred feet .

 

UtthamUr Swamy's anubhavam:

Here, Swamy AlavanthAr makes reference to

Her Parathva guNams (Supermacy ) as well as

Her Dayaa / Krupaa / KaaruNyam , which are

the causes for Her Soulabhya guNam . By admitting that

he is incapable of eulogizing Her and yet he will engage in

such an impossible effort , Swamy AlavanthAr has performed

visEsha sthuhti of Sri Devi and points out that he has been

emboldened to eulogize Her in his role as Her dhAsan and

as one who has sought Her refuge ( Prapannan).

 

PirAtti's Vaibhavam is limitless. It is equal to the Lord

in this respect. It is svaabhAvikam ( intrinsic

and not caused by anyone).Vedam has given up in its

efforts to describe His anantha kalyANa guNams

adequately after trying . The loftiness of Sri DEvi

who is forever favorably disposed towards Her Lord

is One , whose Parathva and Dayaadhi guNams matching

that of Her Lord can not be underestimated or denied .

 

To that DEvi with adhbhutha mahimai , Swamy AlavanthAr

says : " Oh DayA SvaroopiNi ! As Your dhAsan and Prapannan ,

adiyEn has overcome my fears about my inadequacies

and am going to engage in Your eulogy " .

 

PeriyavAcchAn PiLLai's anubhavam :

Oh LokanATa DayithE ! Veda PramANams establish

Your Lord's Parathvam (Supermacy) elaborately

and without doubt . some Examples saluting

His Parathvam are :

 

yathO vaachA nivartantE , aprApya manasA saha

Aanandham BrahmaNO VidvAn , na bhiBhEtha kuthascchana

 

--- --- TaittirIya AaraNyakam : 9.1

 

(Meaning): Those who truly comprehend the bliss of ParamAthma

have nothing to fear . That ParamAthmA is the One whose vaibhavam

is not at all measurable and the words along with the mind attempting

such efforts return back recognizing their failure.

 

ParAsya sakthir vividhava srUyathE svbhAvikee JN~Ana BalakriyA

-- -- -- SvEtaswatara Upanishad

 

(Meaning ): It is understood that this ParamAthmA has natural Jn~Anam ,

strength and sakthi , which are multifaceted and immeasurable .

 

Your Lord is "avaangh--manasa gOcharan " ( can not be described

by speech or mind ) . He does not know the limits of His own Vaibhavam.

Such a Lord of Yours , who can not succeed in attempting his own Vaibhava

niroopaNam fails also at establishing the boundaries of Your (Sri Devi's)

anantha kalyANa guNams ( Tava Vaibhava niroopaNam ) . Such is

the greatness of Your Vaibhavam !

 

Jagath Seshithva dhvithvam ( Having double Seshis)

One may wonder whether there is One Seshi or two

Seshis for the Universe , if the Lord is the Seshi and

His consort is the SeshiNi . Sri Devi has chosen to be

Her Lord's servant /daasi /seshan , while being the SeshiNI

for the world and its beings . Taittiriya Samhithai pramANam

4.4.12) addresses this question brilliantly :

 

AsyEsAnA JagathO VishNupathnee

 

( She is the Swamini/Empress for the whole world,

while being the dear consort of VishNu , the SarvEswaran).

Our Lord is totally enchanted with His divine consort's

soundharyam and KalyANa GuNams ( Pitthar Panimalar Paavaikku).

She is Sesham to Her Lord and as such SeshINi to the world as well .

Hence , there are no double Seshis (Seshithva dhvithvam) . She attains

Swaminithvam (SeshiNi status) for the world and its beings of Her role

as the dearest consort of the LokanATan .

 

PeriyavAcchAn PiLlai's son , NaayanArAcchAn PiLLai in his vyAkhyAnam

for ChathusslOki gives the meaning for "DhAntE " as " KaruNAmrutha

Samvardhithai aana KaRpakak-kodiyE ( Oh Devi , who is like a tender

Kalpaka creeper noted for its nectar of KaruNai ). Swamy AlavanthAr

addresses this "KaruNOjwala samvardhithai" and states his qualifications

for eulogizing Her : " dhAntE ! tE dayAm vidhan DhAsa ithi , Prapanna ithi

aham nirbhaya: sthOshyAmi ". Knowing Her unlimited Daya and Her special

affection towards those , who are Her DhAsaas and PrapannAs , Swamy

AlavanthAr states that he has become fearless in his attempts to eulogize

Her through his ChathusslOki .

 

Summary of Swamy Desikan's commentary

Sarva Sakthan , BhagavAn is unable to describe

fully and successfully your infinite auspicious attributes .

As Omniscinet one ( Sarvaj~nan ) , He knows that Your

Vaibhavam is limitless and they are growing forever.

Hence , He gives up this impossible task of establishing

the limit to Your Vaibhavam . I am emboldened however

to engage in this attempt to eulogize Your Vaibhavam

since You are my compassionate Mother and adiyEn is Your

prapannan . As Your dhAsan , adiyEn can not stay away from

eulogizing You . Further for my little effort of Prapatthi , You

have blessed me with a great phalan of Moksham . That is

additional reason for adiyEn to eulogize You without fear .

Out of my uncontrollable joy over gaining the huge fruit of

Moksham in return for my laghu upAyam ( easy anushtAnam

of Prapatthi performed in a trice ) , I can not but give my

thanks to You through my eulogy .

 

If I have Your anugraham , I will have no fear about

any punishment from Your Lord ( Oh LokanAta DayitE!

Thvath prasAdhE sathi , SarvEswarAdhapi bhayam

naasthi ithyAhu: ) . Thus I have become nirbhaya:

(fearless about my attempts to praise You) . Your Lord

will not go against You because He is known as

Sri Vallabhan . He adores You and will not do anything

that would displease You . Hence I am emboldened .
