The Murthy of Sri Lakshmi Hayagrivan with His beloved consort

seated on His left thigh is one of the most beautiful that adiyEn

has been blessed to have darsana soubhAgyam . The majesty ,

the KaaruNyam of this Sri Lakshmi Hayagreeva Murthy is to

be seen to be believed . He blesses the seekers with AadhyAthma

Jn~Anam .

 

There are number of sacred texts such as Hayagriva SthOtram

of Swamy Desikan housing Sri Hayagriva Manthram , Sri HayagrIva

Panjaram , Sri HayagrIva Kavacham , Sri HayagrIva Upanishad ,

Sri HayagrIva AshtOtthara and Sahasra Naamams for the truly

blessed upAsakAs of Lord HayagrIvan . He is SrEyasAm Pathi.

He is UdhgItha PraNava Moorthy . He is Jn~Anandhamayan .

He is Svatha Siddhan . As Sundara Anirudhha avathAran ,

He is AniruddhAmsan . He is the embodiment of PraNavam.

He is Thrayeemayan. He is the Ucchishta Brahmam

As we stand before Lord HayagrIvan's powerful presence at

the Pomona Temple , the meanings of the third slOkam of

Swamy Desikan's SthOthram ( Samaahaara SaamnAm- --)

echos in our mind . Here , Swamy Desikan instructs us that

the Hala-Hala sounds( naadham) emanating from the divine

throat of the Horse-faced Lord are the aggregates of Saama

Veda Manthrams , the word-for-word meanings of Rg Vedam

and the abode of Yajur Veda Manthrams . Those auspicious

SunAdhams of Lord HayagrIvan chase away all the nesciences

and viparItha Jn~Anams .

Swamy Desikan pointed out the way to perform SaraNaagathy

to Lord HayagrIvan and gave us the reasons why we perform

Prapatthi to Him in the 5th slOkam of Sri HayagrIva sthOtram:

 

Visuddha Vij~nAna ghana svaroopam

Vij~nAna Bhaddha dheeksham

DayAnidhim dEhabruthAm SaraNyam

Devam HayagrIvamaham prapadhyE

 

(meaning): Lord HayagrIvan's dhivyAthma svaroopam is entirely

constituted by Pure Jn~Anam . As the abode of DayA , Lord HayagrIvan

strives to show the erring chEthanams the unfailing route

for Moksham through tatthva Traya upadEsam . He stands as

the protector of ChEthanams from the dangerous ocean of

SamsAric afflictions and gives His hands representing SaasthrAs

to lift us out of our miseries as nithya samsAris . Swamy Desikan

states that he is also surrendering at the sacred feet of

Lord HayagrIvan to recieve the boon of true Jn~Anam .

 

Lord HyagrIvan restored the VedAs stolen by AsurAs and

gave them back to Brahma to enable him to perform his

ordained duties of srushti . A tiny drop of Lord HayagrIvan's

power as the Lord of VidhyAs empowers Saraswathi Devi

and DakshiNAmUrthy . His SarIram is Manthramayam.

He is Vaageeswaran . Saraswathi DEvi worshipped

Lord Lakshmi HayagrIvan at Kashmir and the vigraham

that She worshipped was presetned by Saraswathi DEvi

to recognize AchArya RaamAnujA's creation of the commentary

for BRAMA SOOTHRAMS THAT SHE NAMED AS SRI BHAASHYAM .

That dhivya Mangala Vigraham was recieved by Swamy Desikan

through His AchArya Paramparai and is worshipped today by

the great AchAryaas of Sri ParakAla Matam at Mysore .

 

Lord HayagrIvan's matchless power as the boon grantor

for Jn~Anam is saluted by the 16th slOkam of Swamy

Desikan's Sri HayafrIva SthOtram:

 

api kshaNArTam kalayanthi yE ThvAm

aaplAvayantham visadhie mayUkai:

VaachAm pravAhair anivArithais tE

MandhAkineem mandhayithum kshamanthE

 

(Meaning): Oh Lord HayagrIvA ! You spread Your cool white radiance

on Your upAsakaas and make them blessed with tranquility and true

Jn~Anam . When they meditate on You for even half a second ,

their scholarship flows in an uninterrupted manner that excels

the speed of the fast moving Gangaa river .

 

Let us meditae on Lord HayagrIvan at His Sannidhi at

Pomona , NY with Swamy Desikan's DhyAna SlOkam

that visualizes Him with Jn~AnOpadesa Mudhrai in one of

the four hands , a book in the other and the divine conch and

Chakram on the remaining two hands. He is like a spatika

( white quartz) in hue and is found seated on a white lotus.

Heis tejas is undiminished ( amlAna SrI:) and He is free of

any blemishes ( anaga mahimaa). He is the Lord of all

knowledge and speeches ( Vaagh adheesa: ) . Swamy Desikan

prays for the waves of nectar arising from the Lord immerse

him in bliss and appear before him at all times :

Lord HayagrIvan appeared before Swamy Desikan

at the Oushada Giri of Thiruvaheendhrapuram for
