Guest guest
Sri Parthasarathi thunai SrimathE ramanujaya Namaha Srimad Vara Vara munayE Namaha Sri vAnAchala mahA munayE Namaha Our sampradayam is called as Srivaishnava sampradayam. According to this sampradayam emperuman along with piratti is considered to be everything. We fall to the divine feet of Sriman Narayanan. The prime identification (svaroopa niroopaka dharmam) for perumal himself is the Sri sambhandam. Nammazhvar praises thiruvenkatamudaiyan as, "agalagillEn eraiyum endru alarmEl mangai urai mArbA". Thirumazhisai piran says, "thiruvillA dEvarai thErEnmin thEvu". Though we find the importance of Sridevi nachiyar in the paasurams of other azhvars one azhvar who started his prabhandam with the Sri sabdham and ended with the same is none other than our peyAzhvar who took avataram in mAdamAmayilai. The first two among the mudal azhvars lit lamps (loka deepam and jnana deepam) but the third azhvar, peyazhvar without any difficulty of lighting any lamp enjoyed the divine beauty of emperuman and sung "ThirukkandEn ponmEni kandEn thigazhum arukkan aniniramum kandEn" First he saw only 'thiru' Sridevi nachiyar. Why? Thayar is the embodiment of mercy. She doesnt see our faults and hence easily gives darshan and not stopping with that she does purushakaram and makes emperuman forgive all our mistakes and shower his krupai on all of us. That is why our elders say that whenever we go to a temple we have to first visit the sannadhis of azhvar/acharyas, followed by thayar sannadhi and with the permission of thayar visit perumal's sannadhi so that emperuman's anger on us due to the innumerable apacharams committed by us will be softened by thayar in the appropriate manner. So azhvar also says that he saw only 'thiru' Sridevi nAchiyar first. While completing his prabhandam also peyazhvar ends saying, "thEnamarum poo mEl thiru". So he started the prabhandam with 'thiru' and ended with 'thiru'. Usually the crux of the prabhandam can be understood by seeing the first, middle and last paasuram. We have seen that the first and last talk about Sriman Narayanan. In the middle lets see in the thiruvallikeni paasuram what azhvar says, "endhai oruvalli thAmaraiyAl ondriya seer mArban thiruvallikeniyAm sendru" Again he talks about emperuman on whose chest resides the divine piratti. So in his single prabhandam peyazhvar has excellently put the main aspect of Srivaishnava sampradayam. He ends the prabhandam stating that the divine couples are our sole refuge. Probably only because of the great interest shown by peyazhvar towards establishing the importance of sridevi nAchiyar, his avathara stalam is called as "mahila pur" (now changed to mylapore) and probably keeping this in mind only thirumangai mannan sang mangalasasanams to the ladies in mAdamAmayilai thiruvallikeni (piratti being on the top of the list) as "oppavarillA mAdargal vAzhum mAdamAmayilai thiruvallikeni". Andal in her last paasuram in thiruppavai did mangalAsAsanams to "vanga kadal kadaindha mAdhavanai kEsavanai". Where to see mAdhavan and kEsavan together? In mylapore there are two temples one for mAdhavan and one for kEsavan and inbetween the two temples we find the avathara stalam of peyazhvar and the big well in which azhvar was born in a alli flower. Peyazhvars from both the above sannadhis visit the avathara stalam on Iyppasi sadhayam day, thiruavathara thirunAl every year and undergo thirumanjanam. Here are the links to the photos of both the azhvars taken after thirumanjanam and alankaram. 1. Peyazhvar at Keshavan Sannidhi: http://www.pbase.com/svami/image/35536400 2. Peyazhvar at Madhavan sannidhi: http://www.pbase.com/svami/image/35536407 It is amazing that many of the azhvars have not given that much importance to their avathara stalams and hence not sung about the same. But peyazhvar has done mangalasasanam to emperuman in thiruvallikeni that too first among divyadesa mangalasasanam. There is a separate sannadhi for peyazhvar in thiruvallikeni and the street is itself called as "peyazhvar koil street". Some say that azhvar took avataram only here in the alli flower since the place itself is named only after the pond filled with alli flowers. The speciality here is that for all azhvar/acharya thirunakshatram Sri Parthasarathi emperuman due to his atmost sowlabhyam undergoes thirumanjanam with the respective azhvar/acharya in the morning and purappadu followed by sattrumarai in the evening. The thirumanjanam and sattrumarai occur only inside the temple premises. But only on peyAzhvar thirunakshatra day, first peyazhvar comes from his sannadhi does mangalasasanams to parthasarathi and invites emperuman to his sannadhi. Parthasarathi without any second thought follows suit straight to azhvar sannadhi and stays the whole day in azhvar sannadhi and everything thirumanjanam, sevai, sAttrumarai occurs only in peyazhvar sannadhi. Doesn't this show that emperuman is surely bhaktha parAdheenan. He runs to celebrate the avathara mahotsavam of his dear devotee. Who else other than our dear Parthasarathi can show such a great sowlabhyam? He ran to the call of the gopis will he not run for the sake of Peyazhvar? Photo of Thiruvallikeni pEyazhvar on the sattrumarai day is uploaded in the site under the following link. 3.
