Pushpa, ThyAga, BhOga ...6

We saw that satyam refers to the synchronised fashion of working of

body and mind. Here is an interesting pasuram from ‘IrandAm

ThiruvandhAdhi’ sung by BhootathAzhwar,

'pOthaRinthu vaanarangaL pooncunaipukku, aangalarntha pOtharinthu

koNdEtthum pOthu,uLLam - pOthu maNivENG kadavan malaradikkE sella,

aNivENG kadavanpE raaynthu'

Even the vaanarakkoottam in Thirumalai wakes up in Brahama Muhurtam

and performs kaimkaryam to ThiruVenkadamudayAn by manas, vAk and

kAyam. Even if a vanaarakottam is able to do that kaimkaryam, even

our souls should be able to do that.

Let us dwell little bit on Jnana pushpam part. Every one of us recites

‘uttrOmE AvOm unakkE nAm atcheyvOm….’ in sAttrumrai pasuram daily.

This again shows that we are always there to just do service to Him,

and only to Him. In the first pasuram of ThiruppAvai, Andal uses the

name Narayanan. In the end she says that she had called Him with

SirupEr initially. Now, she calls Him as ‘kurai ondrun illAtha

Govinda’. Though Andal has not directly referred to any archAvatAram

in ThiruppAvai, she sang about the greatness of Govinda nAmam.

Let us again go back to the Narayana nAmam and see how Thirumangai

Azhwar enjoyed ThiruVenkadamudAdyan with this name. Here it is,

pEsuminthirunNaamamettezhutthum sollinNinRu, pinnarum,

pEsuvaarthammaiyuyyavaangkip piRappaRukkum piraanidam,

vaasamaamalarnNaaRuvaar pozhilsoozhtharumulagukkellaam,

dhEsamaaytthigazhummalai thiruvEngkadamadainNeNYchamE

Azhwar asks his nenjam to keep reciting the AshtAkshara ThirunAmam and

proceed to vaasamaamalar pozhil soozhtharum ThiruVenkadam.

Kulasekara Azhwar wants to become anything on ThiruVenkadam. In his Perumal Thirumozhi, he says,

‘EmperumAn pon malaiyil aEthEnum avEnE’

We can keep enjoying ThiruVenkadamudayAn without an end. For us, the

SriVaishnavaites, everything starts and ends in Azhwars and AchAryAs.

Let us look at NammAzhwar’s ‘Ozhivil…’ pathikam again. He clearly says that,

‘vEnka dangaLmeym mElvinai muRRavum, thaangaL thangatku nallana

vEseyvaar, vEnka datthuRai vaarkku namavenna laanga damai,a thusumanN

thaarkatkE’

After reaching ThiVenkatadam, we don’t even have to do the kaimkaryams

that vaanarakoottam do there. All we need to do keep remembering is

namaha after reaching ThiruVenkadam, which means we are not ours, we

are His property. He is the one who does everything on us. Thus, we

just need to carry nothing but the thought that we are His property

and we need His 'NirhEtuka Krupai'.

If we could recollect where we started from, we are finishing in the

same place. Again we have come to,

‘sumamanthu mAmalar……’

Thus we can see there is no end to anubhavam of ThiruVenkadamudayAn.

We are caught in the loop that Azhwars and AchAryAs have made for us.

This is the loop, which will definitely take us to the abode of

‘Pirapparukkum pirAn’. Now we can get reminded about the vEda vAkyam,

‘na ca punarAvartatE na ca punarAvartatE’. We will never come back to

this cycle of samsara if we are caught in this loop.

‘vEnkatAdri samam sthAnam BrahmAndE nAsti kincana, vEnkatEsa samO dEvO na bhUtO na bavishyati’

aDiyEn,

ramanan
