******************************************************

The third of the 4 kinds of Worship the Bhagavath-Gita

has described is a very special one indeed. It belongs

to he who is called the "jignyAsu". His form of

worship is truly "sAttvic" inspired as it is neither

by Fear nor Desire but by an overwhelming sense of

Wonder and inquisitiveness.

To the "ArthA" the Worship of God is but a desperate

search for means of escape or relief from Fear. To the

"arthArthi", the Worship of God is a search for means

of realizing life's many Desires, great and small. The

true "jignyAsu" however is said to approach God out of

a sense of pure curiosity and platonic inquiry. There

is never any tinge of "tamas" or "rajas" in his ways

of worship.

The "jignyAsu" seeks knowledge of God because he finds

the allurement of God -- even as Idea, Entity or

Presence -- simply irresistible. It would not be wrong

to say the 'jignyAsu' pursues God for the same reason

why an entrepreneur, for example, is perennially in

pursuit of his "next big business project"; why a

scientist doggedly pursues a research project; or,

even why a philanderer cannot help chasing one

romantic affair after another. The 'jignyAsu's' search

for God is motivated by an all-powerful, all-consuming

urge. For reasons he cannot himself quite fathom

fully, the very idea of God and its pursuit provides

him some deep sense of purpose, adventure,

accomplishment or conquest in life. The Almighty is a

puzzle he must solve, an enigma he must unravel and an

eternal mystery he must somehow uncover in Time...

There is thus never any rest for the "jignyAsu" until

he has finally found answers for the searing questions

of life he poses to himself. Mercilessly, relentlessly

he asks --"What is this world?", "What are these

infinite spaces surrounding the cosmos?", "Who caused

it? Who thought it all up? Who conceived it? Who made

it?". And then "Who am I?Where do I come from?",

"Who is my creator?", "Where can I reach him?", "What

is the Cause of all that I see, feel and experience in

any given moment frozen in time?"... And so on and so

forth.

The 'jignyAsu's' mission in life is a perennial one.

It is an unending quest which at times seems hopeless.

But he is quite content to go on persevering. One may

ask 'why?' It is simply because the "jignyAsu's" credo

or motivation in life is akin to the old Biblical

counsel: "Cease not from search until ye find; finding

ye shall wonder; wondering ye shall enter the Kingdom

and in the Kingdom ye shall find peace".
