Guest guest
Sri : Dear BhakthAs : The last posting in this series goes back to October 6 , 2004. adiyEn will now return to the rest of the visits to dhivya dEsams during this special trip to India in September for RathnAngi SamarpaNam. Thirumangai's ThirukkOshtiyUr Paasurams (Periya Thirumozhi: 9.10 ) ************************************************************************ Paasuram 9.10.1 on ThirukkOttiyUrAn ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ yengaL yemm iRai EmpirAn imayOrkku Naayakan yEtthu adiyavar tangaL tamm--manatthup-piriyAthu aruL purivAn pongu taNN aruvi putham seyyap--ponkaLE sithaRa ilangu oLi sengamalam malarum THIRUKKOTTIYURAANE Comments : Thirumangai was aware of the exquisite anubhavam of PeriyAzhwAr about the EmperumAn of this dhivya dEsam and also the importance of this dhivya dEsam for PeriyAzhwAr in establishing the Parathvam (Supermacy ) of Sriman NaarAyaNan in the court of the Pandyan king . Therefore , Thirumangai AzhwAr relates to the Lord of ThirukkOttiyUr with affection as " YengaL ThirukkOttiyUrAnE " . The choice of the word "YengaL" for the Lord of ThirukkOttiyUr suggests that He is the dearest Lord for him ( Thirumangai ) as well as for all the other AzhwArs , who performed MangaLAsAsanams prior to him . In this paasuram , Thirumangai salutes ThirukkOttiyUr PerumAL , Sowmya NaarAyaNan , as "Yemm iRai " ( our undisputed Master , Sarva Swamy ) and " Yemm PirAn/EmpirAn " ( Our compassionate Lord , who goes out of His way to help every one , who sought Him as their rakshakan). Thirumangai describes Sowmya NaarAyaNan as a ParamOpakAri , whose help( upakAram) is limitless . He does not abandon any one of His devotees ( adiyArs) even for a fraction of a second and blesses every one of them with all types of soubhAgyams. Thirumangai recognizes His Lord as the Lord of DEvAs " ImayOr Naayakan" (DEva NaaTan) as well as the Lord of the eternally liberated Jevans ( Nithya Sooris) such as Garudan , AadhisEshan et al . AzhwAr is elated with pride in hailing his dear Lord as " YengaL ThirukkOttiyUrAn ImayOr Naayakan" . Our dear ThirukkOttiyUrAn is also "Yemm iRai" and "Yemm PirAn" states Thirumangai with unbridled affection . ThirukkOttiyUrAn's Achyutha Tatthvam is saluted by Thirumangai with the Paasura passage: " yEtthu adiyavar tangaL tamm manatthu piryAthu aruL purivaan ". For those prapannAs and ParamaikAnthis , who eulogize Him , He enters their heart lotuses and stays there always with His dear consort . ThiukkOttiyUrAn rnever lets them slip away from them . He resides in their heart lotuses and blesses them with sarva mangaLams. The tenderness and love of Thirumangai for this PerumAL is revealed from the salutation : " YengaL ThirukkOttiyUrAn " . Ingu Thirumangai PerumALidam visEsha uRavu koNDAduhiraar. There is a special reason for Thirumangai to claim this intimate relationship with ThirukkOttiyUrAn . ThirukkOttiyUr in Sanskrit translates into "Sri GhOshti Puram ". The name of GhOshti Puram is linked to the Sthala PurANam , which states that the assembly (GhOshti) of the righteous ( Saadhus ) convened here during the time of their oppression and intimidation by HiraNyan to strategize on the ways to annihilate that dushta asuran . The Saadhus sought a special place , where they can assemble without fear from HiraNyan and chose this dhivya dEsam as a result of Kadhambha Maharishi's existing curse that no dushtan and durAchAran should enter this sacred space unless they want to die . Hence HiraNyan could not dare to enter this dhivya dEsam , which was a protected territory .. This protection encouraged the Saadhu GhOshti to choose this dhivya dEsam for their deliberations and the name of Sri GhOshti Puram arose from that event . Thirumangai thinks about these Parama Saadhu GhOshtis and the anugraham of the Lord of this dhivya dEsam and takes pride in identifying with the Lord as "YengaL ThirukkOttiyUrAn ". In the remaining portion of the first paasuram , Thirumangai describes the material prosperity and the physical beauty of this dhivya dEsam of His Lord : " Pongu TaNN aruvi putham seyya ponkaLE sithaRa ilangu oLi sengamalam alarum " idam koNDavan (YengaL ThirukkOttiyUrAn).The abundant water in this dhivya dEsam is recognized through the cool water that flows swiftly the many fountains that criss cross this dhivya dEsam. When these floods descend , they loosen up the soil and scatter gold dust all around and makes the dhivya dEsam filled with lustre. The abundant waters from the springs and fountains collect in the many ponds , which become home for beautiful red lotus flowers that enrich further the soundharyam of the dhivya dEsam of ThirukkOttiyUrAn .
