Swamy Deshikan Thiruvadigale Sharanam !!!

 

Dear Bhagavathas,

 

Sriman Shathakopa thathacharya swamy of Kanchipuram has released a VCD of

Swamy Thuppul Deshikan's Thirunakshatram celebrations. Sriman Shatakopa

Thathacharya is the trustee of Thooppul Vedantha Desikar Charitable Trust.

With regards to the procurement of this VCD by bhagavathas, Sriman

Shathakopa thathacharya has forwarded the following appeal. (All translation

errors are adiyen's).

Our Swamy who is thus glorified as "sIronRu thUppul" has composed many

works. Out of these is the important allegorical play "Sankalpa suryodayam".

We should indeed peruse this work and then witness the wonderful

mangalashasanam utsavam of Swamy at Thuppul. We get to feel that this

utsavam has been orchestrated in order to pursue the path shown by Swamy in

this play.

 

In his prabandham Thiruchinnamalai Swamy says "thErinmEl azhagarvandAr".

Lord Varadaraja having listened to this, as per the maxim

"tatkratunyAyaprakAre" comes bedecking himself on the vAhanas like Kudirai

(Horse) and others. Along these lines, in his work Varadaraja Panchashat,

Swamy quotes Perarulalan to be the master dramatist for the play of sRushti,

sthiti, praLayam in his words "shailUShavat vividhaveSha parigraham tvAM".

It appears to us that it was indeed the divine volition of Perarulalan that

our Swamy be the master playwright in this allegorical masterpiece Sankalpa

suryodayam.

 

Let us enjoy some of those instances where Swamy assumes the role of some of

the actors in this play.

 

In all of Swamy's works, the essential purports of tattva-hita-purusharthams

may be abundantly seen. We also see that Swamy has elaborately pictured the

exquisite features of the Lord's manifest forms like the dashavataras and

archavataras at divya-deshams. And so, in the play Hamsa sandesham, Swamy

praises the kshetrams Thirumalai and Kanchipuram directly and having been

unable to leave out Srirangam, and with great ingenuity says "sheShapITham

bhajema:" indicating that Sriranganathan would adore this peetham in future.

 

 

But this difficulty is not to be seen in Sankalpa suryodayam as Swamy,

deftly uses the strategy to enjoy and celebrate Dashavatarams. He envisions

a chitrashalai that has pictorial representations of the dashavatarams.

Swamy also envisions a role by name "Vyavasaya" that comes to visit this

chitrashalai. Refer the beginning of the 7th act - "samskAra:". In the same

way, Swamy here guises himself in the role of "Vyavasayan" and celebrates

the deities Sriraman, Krishnan, Nrusimhan, Periya Piratti who are present in

the sannidhi of Perarulalan. This is one of the scenes in this

mangalashasanam utsavam.

 

In this second act, Swamy assumes the role of a disciple. Swamy in this role

performs mangalashasanam to the kalakshepa goshti of Nadadur Ammal and gets

blessed with the famous words "PratishThapita vedantha ...". This is another

scene in this mangalashasanam utsavam.
