Guest guest
Let us look at the sambandham of Azhwars with Thirukkurungudi Nambi. Unlike most of the other Divya Desams, this Kshetram has strong links to the life of Azhwars. Nammazhwar’s parents, Kari and Udayanangayar prayed to this Perumal for putra bhagyam. When Nambi asked about the kind of child they wanted, the parents replied that they wanted a child like Nambi. This ofcourse is not possible logically. He is known ‘otthAr, mikkAr…’ by Azhwar. None can be found equal to Nambi. In order to answer the prayers of Kari and Udayanangayar, Nambi Himself was born as Nammazhwar. This is the first strong link to the Azhwar Goshti for Nambi. Parankusan is known as the ‘Prapanna Jana kootasthan’ in our sampradayam. He is the head of the prapanna jathi. Hence, our sampradayam logically starts here. Parakalan is known as the kadai kutty Azhwar, meaning the last in terms of history. After singing loads of pasurams, Parakalan asked for moksham to Srirangam Perumal. Srirangam Perumal asked him to go to His southern house (Therkku Veedu) and perform kaimkaryam. Kaliyan went to Thirukkurungudi and performed kaimkaryam before getting to SriVaikuntam. Hence, if we logically look at the goshti we can conclude that Thirukkurngudi Nambi is directly linked to Azhwar Goshti. Since Nambi Himself was born as Nammazhwar, here is another way of looking at the sambandham with Azhwar Goshti and also the Acharya Goshti. All the Azhwars form a part of Nammazhwar’s Thirumeni. Head - BhootathAzhwar Eyes - Poigai and PeyAzhwar Face - PeriyAzhwar Neck - Thirumazhisai Azhwar Shoulders - Kulasekar Azhwar Chest - ThiruppAnAzhwar Womb - Thirumangai Azhwar Feet (Thiruvadigal) – Madhurakavi Azhwar and Ramanujar Specifically, in Azhwar Thirunagari (Thiukkurugur), Swami Ramanujar is the Thiruvadi of Nammazhwar. There is no separate vigraham for Nammazhwar in the area around Nava Thiruppathi other than Azhwar Thirunagari. One can find a small vigraham of Nammazhwar in the satAri of Vaanamaamalai Divya Desam. Here is the third case scenario where we can draw a strong link between Thirukkurungudi Nambi and Azhwar Goshti. With the fact that Nammazhwar is none but Thirukkurungudi Nambi, He sung 4 Divya Prabandham works, with each one as the sAram (juice) of each vedam. Parakalan, who lived his last days here was the one who did 6 works representing the angAs of that Tamizh vedam. Since both these Azhwars had strong ties to this Perumal(not just by mangalAsAsanam, but in thier lives), it can be concluded that Thirukkurungudi Nambi has sambandham with complete Azhwar Goshti. All the above are just the sambandham of Azhwars to Perumal. Azhwars are considered to be small stones (Koozhang kal) when compared to our Acharya Goshti (Parvatham). It is well known that sambandham of Azhwar fetches the sambandham of Acharyan. This was what happened to Thirukkurungudi Nambi. Let us see how Nambi became a SriVaishnvan in the next posting, aDiyEn, ramanan Meet the all-new My – Try it today!
