SrImathE Gopaladesika mahadesikaya namah:

Dearest Srivaishnavas,

Anantha, Garuda, vishwaksEnar is the common order in

which NithyasUris are addressed. Hence, after

describing the kaimkaryam of AdhisEshan as the divine

Bed for the Lord touching every portion of the

Lord’s divine Body, now ALavandhaar enjoys

Garudaa who is standing in front of the Lord. He is

called Periya ThiruvaDi.

Daasas sakhaa vaahanam aasanam dhvajO

yasthE vidhaanam vyajanam thrayee maya:

upasthitham thEna purO garuthmathaa

tvadangri sammarda kiNaanga sObhinaa [41]

Veda swarUpi- the Veda mUrthi- VedAthmA Garuda –

is Your dAsa; [adiyaan- servant]; Your friend; Your

vehicle; seat; Your flag [or banner]; vidhaanam

[canopy]; fan and due to Your Feet being pressed on

Gauthmaan always, he is blessed with the beauty of

scar sign and he has his hand for Your service at Your

feet; standing in front of You. [such Great GauthmAn

worships You and serves You]

AnanthAzhwAn is addressed as sEshan; while Garuda is

here referred to by Alavandhar as dAsar. sEshathvam is

generally common among achith [non-sentient- matter]

and chith [sentient- jeevathma]. dAsathvam is being

aservant to chethanan. One person being a servant to

other; while sEshathvam can be either person or an

object being at service to other person.

AdhisEshan serves as a Bed, Padhukas, Couch, umbrella

etc… thus almost behaving as if it is achethanam

– hence sEsha padham was used by Alavandhar.

Garuda carries the Lord and PiraaTTi on His back and

flies; serves as a vehicle. Hence necessarily to be a

jeevan for capacity to fly… hence dAsathvam was

used

Also sEshan while being a dAsan- standing in front of

Him merely as achith and worshipping Him.

How can the dAsar be addressed also as friend (read

the verse)? Sharing sukha dhukka (pleasures and

suffering) is the duty of a friend. Came in the form

of Garuda himself in Rama avathAram and served when

they were tied down by Naagasthra. Thus he was a

friend in need, who could not bear to see Him in

distress.

GarudA is also the Asanam [Chair] as after flying and

utilising his services as a vehicle, the Lord chooses

to be on his back as Asanam [Throne]. When the Lord is

below, GarudA spreads his wings and protects him from

sunshine; [vinathaiyin siRuvan siRagennu mElaarppil

varuvaan- says AndaL in Naacchiyaar Thirumozhi]

Sage Parasara also says: kruthacchaayam harErmoordhni

padhAbhyAm pakshipunkavam. –

Thus for the Veda vEddhyan- Lord Sriman Narayanan,

GarudA, having the parts of his divine body with Veda

vaakyaas (sruthi) serves as vehicle. Thus Sriman

Narayanan alone is VedapradhipAdhyan.

By carrying His Lotus feet on his palms, and being

squeezed on his shoulders by the Lord (sitting on

GarudA), there is scar sign in his body; the suddha

satthva thirumEni (divine body in transcendental form)

can not have such marks; But for the devotees who

worship Garuda sevai, gets that anubhavam.

Such dAsa bhUthar Great GarudA worship You…Thus

being a Veda moorthi, Veda swaroopi can not remain

idle and he praises and worships You when he stand in

front of You.

Alavandhaar ThiruvaDigaLE SaraNam

Regards

Namo Narayana

dAsan
