Guest guest
THE TEARS OF THE MOON 'thingaL mugam pani padiakkum azhagAr..' We have heard of crocodile tears, the tears from the eyes. The happy tears, the tears of sorrow. What is this? tears from the moon? The maidens of the dhivya-dhEsam 'kAzi-sErAma viNNagaram' are beautiful. The pretty women stand on the top storey, with their mid-portion -which is like vudukkai- their faces are raidant, bright and sparkling. It is customary and commonplace to observe poets comparing girls with flowers and moon. Here, however, the moon became crestfallen on seeing the radiance and the beauty of their faces. It introspected itself " What a life we are leading. Despite the fact that we are compared for beauty, we cannot match their countenance" and the tears start falling. swAmi peirya vAchAn piLLai's vyAkyAnam is a class. The moon thinks as said above ' "nAm enna jEvanam jEvikkiRoam, ivargaLoAdu, oppuch sollach seidhEa, oppup pOrAdha padi iruppadhEa" enRu dhukkap padA niRkum AyiRru. chandhranukkuch chandran ivargaL" ' thingal mugam pani padaikkum azhagAr (to be continued) vanamamalai padmanabhan Attachment: [not stored]
