Dear Sri Madhavan / Members

Adiyen inspite of my very limited knowledge would like to share a few words

regarding your query.

For us, the various centers of our SV sampradAyam should, by default,

command equal devotion and reverence, even across sects - minor

philosophical differences notwithstanding.

After all, the Matams and Ashramams were established for safe-guarding and

developing our sampradAyam and siddhAntham and not to just segregate us into

one AcharyA lineage or the other. Having said that, we all have a natural

affection or comfort level with respect to our direct AcharyA Sannidhi but

shouldn't let that hold us back from learning and enjoying from companion

achArya paramparais.

To this day, most of our AchAryAs (at one point or the other atleast in

their purvAshramams) have interacted and learned from each other and

continue to do so whenever possible, even after becoming siddhAnta

nirdhArana SArvabhoumAs of a particular seat. Most trace back their

guruparampara to a common AchAryA.

For instance, Sri PrativAti Bayankaram Annan Swami of ThennAcharya

SampradAyam and a direct disciple of Sri ManavAla Mamunigal studied under

Sri NainarAchAryar, Sri Vedanta Desikar's son!

What better example to look for, in seeking the *anugrahams* from other SV

achAryAs?

Swami Desikar in His work SampradAyaparisuddhi says very emphatically that

there was no difference of opinion/meaning in sishya sampradAyams of Sri

BhAsyakAra. Just interpretational variance. Given that, regardless of our

'direct follower' status, we should have absolutely no qualms approaching

achAryAs or participating in kaimkaryams especially within the same sect! I

should say you're quite right and fortunate.

adiyEn,

Sriram

RE: Asmath AchAryan's Ashta-Sapthathi AvathAra

MahOthsvam : Part II

Most respected Swamin

Being a resident of Hyderabad, I had the privilege of going to the Sri

Ahobila Mutt yesterday and had the bhaagyam of receiving the Sri Satari and

theertham from HH. It was a very very blissful experience.

I am a thiruvadi of Srimad Andavan. Yestereday, I did re-priotize my agenda

(official and unofficial) to get this bliss. Vist to HH was not in my

original agenda as I am not a direct follower of Sri Ahobila Mutt.

In this context I request you to furnish, for the benefit of all, thougth

provoking literature, anecdotes, and experiences as to show how one has got

to tell oneself and self motivate oneself to go to the Acharyas of other

Mutts and Samprayadaya. How one can look beyond "my" and "not my" in the

serious area of beseeching Aacharyas' blessings, bhaashanams, and spending

a few moments in their airs, is the topic in which I have the quest.

Regards,

Dasan Madhavan

At the very outset of AchArya Vandhanam on this special day of

His avatharam , let us reflect on the updEsam of Thirumazhisai

AzhwAr in the 89th Paasuram of His Naanmukhan ThiruvandhAthi :

( Comments on the Meaning of the above Paasuram )

***************************************************

I have found today the unfailing means for our ujjevanam

( salvation). That upAyam (means) is Bhagavatha /AchArya

aasrayaNam (holding on to the sacred feet of the AchAryan

firmly) as a way of life .This aasrayaNam of AchAryan ,

prostrating before them , performing niraparAdha Kaimkaryam

for them (blemishless service to them) is the upAyam that

destroys all sins . Such fortunate jeevans , who have performed

Prapatthi benefit immeasurably from the power of their AchAryan ,

who is engaged without break on the meditation and AarAdhanam of

BhagavAn ( Sri Lakshmi Nrusimhanin this case ) ; Such prapannAs

known for their MahA Viswaasam in their AchAryan are filled with bliss.

For them , the doors of Parama padham open up without effort .

Asmath AchAryan is engaged in such AaarAdhanam for and kaimkaryam to

Sri Lakshmi Nrusimhan . His every breath is MalOlan and His guNAnubhavam .

Sriman Anbil Ramaswamy's tribute to HH the revered 45th Jeeyar of

Ahobila Matam cited earlier by Sri Ramaswamy is an exceptionally

moving one and adiyEn refers you back to this detailed and moving

posting for gaining a glimpse of the anantha kalyANa guNams

and visEsha vaibhavam of this great AchAryan :

http://www.saranagathi.org/articles/anbil/45jeer.htm

>From here on , adiyEn will quote the anubhavam of many

Ubhaya VedAnthic SthOtriyAs from their reverential tributes

made , when asmath AchAryan crossed His 70th Thirunakshathram

mile stone .

Srimath Azhagiya Singar's Own words

******************************************

Bhadram KarNEbhi: sruNuyAma dEva:

Bhadram pasyEma aakshabhir-yajathrA: - - - Veda Vaakyam

May we hear the auspicous eulogies about Nrusimhan .

the Bhadran , with our ears ! May we see with our eyes

the auspicious dhivya mangaLa vigraham of MalOlan !

SarvOapi Yamm samAsrithya skalam bhadram asnuthE

SriyA cha Bhadrayaa jushta: Yasthamm BHADRAM namAmyaham

All kshEmams and MangaLams knock on the door of one ,

who seeeks MalOla Nrusimhan as their unfailing refuge .

He is embraced by Bhadrai ( MahA Lakshmi) with ardour

and adiyEn's salutations are to this Bhadran , Sri Lakshmi

Nrusimhan !

Now let us enjoy the excerpts from the tributes of VidhwAns

about prakrutham HH Sri NaarAyaNa YathIndhra MahA Desikan :

1. U.Ve . Sri Veeravalli GhanapADi DesikAchArya Swamy

*********************************************************

UtthirattAthi ( PrOshtapadhaa) Nakshathram has Ahirbhudhnyan

as the athishtAna dEvathai . That is none other than " SarvaJ~nan "

Rudran , who performs his moving SaraNAgathy to Sri Nrusimhan

through the Mantra Raaja Padha SthOthram . The ability to recite

by rote this sthOthram for any one , who will be considered for

Nrusimha AasthAnam at Sri Matam . Why is it so? The name of

Ahirbudhnyan reveals it . Ahirbudhnyan is defined as the One ,

who has never any want and is filled with all mangaLams due to

the anugraham of His patron , MalOlan ( na hreeyathE ithyahi:

KadAchidhapi hreeyathE ) .

The manthrams for aajya aahUthi for the nakshathtra Saanthi

for UthirattAthi , its dEvathai and the BhUmi on which such

celebration of the Lord takes place are :

ahayE BhudhniyAya SvAhA ( for the dEvathi )_

ProshDapadhEbhya: svAhA ( for the Nakshathram)

prathishtAyai SvAhA ( for the stable , motionless BhUmi).

When some one is unable to perform these homams ,

they can recite the Achithra KaaNDa Veda Manthram

and offer manthra roopa aahUthi:

bhavAmithrO na sEvyO gruthAsuthi:

vibhUtha dhyumna yEvayA u sapraTA:

adhAthE VISHNO vidhushA chidhrudhya:

sthOmO yaj~nyasya rAdhyO havishmatha:

(Meaning ) : Oh VishNu ! May Thou be the root cause

of our sukham like a true friend ! Thou art the One ,

who blesses us with bhOgya vasthus like Grutham !

Thou art the One with sarva Sampath ( limitless Iswaryam)!

Thou art the One , who is PrApyam . You travel to the places of

Your aasrithAs to protect them ! Thou art clebrated for

that oudhAryam (generosity of action ) ! Oh VishNu !

even if I am not qualified (fit) to perform this Yaagam ,

the possession of knowledge about the meanings of

Vedam ( vEdArTa Jn~Anam) is important to earn Through

meditation on Your form as Yaagam with the havis ! Thou art

the most appropriate one for our worship ( AarAdhanam) !

This far seeing Azhagiya Singar born on PrOshDapadhA

nakshatram has made sure that Achithra , AswamEdha

PaarAyaNams take place on the EkAdasi days in front of

SarvathO Bhadhran , Ahirbudhnyan's Sarva Swamy . Through

a trust , he has arranged for these Veda ViNNappams and

requests the Lord of AhObilam to hear them ( AkhilANda Koti

BrahmANDa Naayaka! AcchithrAswamEdham SruNu ) . One

who is blessed to hear this AswamEdha PaarAyaNam leaps over

all sins including Brahma hatthi dhOsham ( Sarvam pApmAnam

tarathy , tarathy BrahmahathyAm , yOaswamEdhEna yajathE ,

yauchainamEvam vEdha ). Such is the phalan of listening to

AswamEdham for those , who can not asemble the required

ingredients( Rthviks , Dhravyam etc ) for performing the Yaagam

itself .

SrI Swamy Prasasthi : U.Ve . PeyaampAdi SrivathsAngAcchAr Swamy

*************************************************************************

adiyEn will cover next the other Prasasthis including those of Sri

SrIvathsAngAcchAr Swamy , where he compares Srimath

Azhagiya Singar to ThrivikramAvathAran .
