aruL-mAri- arattamukki- adaiyAr sEyam

adhuvum, nammai anROA solliRRu

 

We are enjoying the pAsuram-s of thirumangai mannan for quite

sometime. In this great day of thirunakshathiram of nElan, it is

appropriate to talk about him.

 

In the final pAsuram of the 'kAzhisErAma viNNagarap' padhigam,

thirumangai-mannan signs off the thirumozhi with few of his names.

 

These are not just names but indeed reflect his attitude and nature.

 

the pAsruam"...ankamalath thada vayal sUzh Ali-nAdan,

aruL mAri, arattamukki, adaiyAr sEyam,

kongu-mali kuzhaliyar vEaL mangai vEAndhan,

koRRavEal para-kAlan, kaliyan..." 3-4-10;

 

I am not able to recall any other pAsuram where thirumangai AzhwAr signs off with such signatures.

 

...ankamala-thada-vayal sUzh Ali nAdan--> AzhwAr who is the controller

of the Ali-nAdu which is encompassed with lotus filled ponds.

 

....aruL mAri--> The person who blesses for beningn souls;

 

....arattamukki---> aratuu-amukki- The AzhwAr who sees thzt enemies are

suppressed and do not lift their heads forever.

 

....adaiyAr sEyam--> the divine person who is like a lion to the opponents.

 

....kongu malar kuzhaliyar vEaL mangai vEandhan--> The Lord of thirumangai.

 

....koRRa-vEal--> The AzhwAr who took up the weapon for the sake of srEvaishNavites.

 

....parakAlan--> the person who is like yamA for the opponents

 

....kaliyan--> AzhwAr.

 

Is it correct? A question was raised whether thirumangai mannan who

actually has to praise the Lord, should talk about himself. The Lord

reply," even that is talking about me only" was the Lord's reply.

 

Sri periyavAchAn piLLai 's vyAkyAnam

 

"nAyanthEA! dhEvarEraik kavi pAda" enRu thudangi "thammaik kavi pAdik koNdAr"
