nilai-ALA--vENDaiyEaA-Agilum--->en-mulai ALA oru nAL--> silai ALA--> maram-eidha

 

prApya nishkarsham-->upAyam avanEA-->ruchi udaiyAr paDi-->charaNyam-rakshagathvam

 

"" nilai-ALA nin vaNanga vENDaiyEaA-Agilum, en-mulai ALA oru nAL

vun agalathAl ALAyEA, silai ALA- maram-eidha thiRal ALA

thiru-meiyya malaiALA nE ALA vaLai ALA maTToAmEA" 3-6-9;

 

The above pAsuram indicates, the service to Him, He being the means,

the soul's longingness, the Lord as the refuge and His everlasting

act of rescue. How?

 

nilai-ALA--> The Lord who governs us and gives us the opportunity to

serve Him--> kainkarya-p-prApthi.

 

nE vEaNdAyE-Agilum--> If the Lord does not want to grant us the

privilege to serve Him, then it is not possibel to do so.Thus, the

only way to attain the goal is His consent and His Grace, is the

message.avanEA upAyam.

 

en-mulai ALa oru nAL un agalathAl ALAyEa--> pEARu thappAdhu

enRirukkaiyum, pEARRukkuth thwarikkaiyum' is the prescription by sri

piLLai lOkAchAryar. The conviction that the ultimate aim will be

achieved and yearn and long for that. By the words - un-agalthAl

ALAyEA, AzhwAr's conviction and the longing is

emphasied.ruchi-uDaiyAr paDi.

 

 

silai-ALA--> The weapons on the Lord is a symbolic reference that we

take refuge in Him. charaNyathvam.

 

maram eidha--> The Lord's divine act of succumbing to sri sugrEvA's

test of firing arrow through the seven trees is a gesture of rescuing

and this is qutoted by AzhwAr to reiterate His, ever willing

attitutude of 'rakshagathvam'.

 

Thus, in this pAsuram the five aspects are highlighted

 

1. nilai-ALA--> The nature of end--> prApyam--> kainkarya-p-prApthi.

 

2. nE vEANdAyE-Agilum--> The nature of means-the Lord being the means--> upAya swarUpam.

 

3. en-mulai ALa oru nAL--> The longing of the soul towards the Lord's

service--> pEARRukkuth thwarikkai;

 

4. silai-ALA--> The Lord being the refuge-charaNyathvam;

 

5. marAmaram eidha--> The Lord being the saviour at all times.

 

 

 

swAmi periya-vAchan piLLia's vyAkyAnam is excellent :

 

"Aga ippAttAl- prApya nishkarshamum, ruchi-vudaiyAr padiyaiyum,

charaNyan padiyaiyum, avanukku rakshagathvam kaNNaiyivaRRirukkiRa

padiyaiyum, ithaliayil abEkshai kuRaivaRRirukkiRa padiyaiyum, ivai

ellAvaRRaiyum sollugiRadhu.

nilaiyALA engaiyAlEa-nithya kainkaryam peRugaiyEa prApyam ennumiDam sollugiRahdu;

vENdAyE-Agilum engaiyAlEA-- upAya bavamum avan pakkal ennumidam solliRRu;

en-mulai ALa oru-nAL engaiyAlEA-- ruchi-vudayAr padi solliRRu;

silayAlA- engaiyAlEA--charaNyadhai solliRRu;

maram-eidha, engaiyAlEa -rakshagathvam kaN azhivaRRirukkiRa paDiyayum solliRRu"
