Guest guest
Dear All, ‘andhaNarmaat tanthi vaittha mandhiratthai, mandhiratthaal maRavaa thenRum vaazhuthiyEl vaazhalaam madaneNcammE’ The above line is from a pasuram of Thirumangai Azhwar’s Thirunedunthandagam. Azhwar refers to the mantram that has been spoken about in hidden fashion all across the Veda. Azhwar takes a complete turn to describe the same in the hidden fashion. He refers to the mantram that has been spoken about all along in the property of a brahmin, vedam. That is nothing about the Thirumantram. Prahalada, the son of Hiranyakasipu was reciting Narayana mantram all the time . Hiranyan was very angry with his son, and finally decided to torture him. All this is known story. Azhwar’s expalanation adds more anubhavam to this story. Here is the pasuram, ‘paLLiyi lOdhi vanNdhadhan siRuvan vaayilO raayira nNaamam, oLLiya vaagip pOdhavaaNG kadhanuk konRumOr poRuppila Nnaagi, piLLaiyaich cheeRi veguNduthooN pudaippap piRaiyeyiR Ranalvizhip pEzhvaay, theLLiya singka maagiya dhEvaith thiruvallik kENikkaN dEnE’ Azhwar refers to thousand names instead of one name, Narayanan. Visualising the suffering undergone by Prahaladan, Azhwar decides to adopt him as his son. It is very natural for a father to praise his son with more excitement and exxageration. That is one of the reasons why Azhwar says that Prahaladan was reciting thousand names instead of one. Another reason for this is very simple. Narayana nAmam is equivalent to thousand names. Because of the act of Hiranyan, Perumal appeared as Narasimhan and killed Hiranyan to protect his bhaktA, Prahaladan. Azhwar enjoys that avataram when worshipping Theillyasingam in Thirvallikkeni. Azhwar did mangalasasanam to MannAthan and Raman in this Divya Desam. Azhwar calls MannAthan as the the suvai payan of veda. During the anubhavam of Raman, Azhwar highlights the beauty of Divya Desam, ‘kuravamE kamazhum kuLirpozhi loodu kuyilodu mayilgaLnNin Raala, iraviyin kadhirgaL nuzhaidhalsey dhaRiyaath thiruvallik kENikkaN dEnE’ Let us look into the anubhavam of Thirumazhisai Azhwar and PeyAzhwar in the next posting, aDiyEn, ramanan The all-new My – What will yours do?
