Guest guest
'thirumAl' The Lord of all the Regions One of the thol-kAppiyam agaithiNai pADal says "mAyOan mEAya kADuRai vulagamum- thirumAl the Lord of forest and its surroundings - the 'mullai' sEyOan mEaya mai varai vulagamum- 'murugA' who is the Lord of hill and its surroundings--'kurinji' nilam vEAndhan mEAya thEm punal vulagamum--'indrA' who is the Lord of plains-gardens and the surroundings--'marudham' varuNan mEyAya peru maNal vulagamum-- 'varuNan' the Lord of sea and its surroundings - neidhal has been referred to by some tamil people as indicating that 'thirumAl' is Lord of only the forest and its surroundings namely 'mullai' from the first line "mAyOan mEya kADuRai' vulagam. But is it so? The poet kallADAnAr has sung the undermentioned song in aga-nAnURu. Here, the hero who went beyond the thiruvENkAta divine hill and returns talks to his charioteer. "....nedu mAl varaiya kudiyignODu irattum kunRu pin vozhiap pOgi.." The hero narrates his experiences when he went beyond this divine hill of thirumAl -thiruvENkatam, for earning money. This goes to indicate that even the hill and its surroundings were adorned by 'thiru-mAl' which goes to prove that 'thirumAl' is the Lord for even in hills and its surroundings-- 'kurinji' It is siginificant to note that the same contents has been voiced in thiru-virutham pAsuram 8 "...thaN mA-malai vENkadathu vumbar nambum sEAN kunRam senRu poruL paDaithAn kaRRa thiNNanavEA" Does it mean then that, thirumAl is the Lord of only mullai and 'kurinji'?
