Sri Alavandhaar's SthOthra Rathnam verse- 59- please bless me for the transformation of mind

SrI:

 

SrImathE Gopaladesika mahadesikaya namah:

 

Dearest Srivaishnavas,

 

I do not want anything except for sEshavrtthi

[incrementing my servitude] and if it is not there,

let me perish. – You are saying, Alvandhaar. Now if I

place an attractive object in front of you, would your

mind not change? Hence what you say now is: not true..

It may change later. It may not be permanent state of

mind.

 

Alavandhaar responds: Even if this desire of mine- is

not strong, fickle minded, be it so. At least for my

asking now, please bless me so. At least make this as

a plea and pray to Yourself, as an excuse for

transforming mind itself slowly and steadily.

 

anicchan apyEvam yathi punaridheecchanniva rajas

thamacchandhacc chathmasthuthivachana bangeerasamayam

thadaapeetthamroopam vachanam avalamyaapi krupayaa

thvamEvaivambhootham dharaNidhara mE sikshaya mana:

[59]

 

Engulfed by rajasa, thamO guNas and covered by the

same; with no strong desire [perhaps] for the

sEshavriithi- though spelt out in earlier verses;

having desired thus now- with deceit [kapatam] in mind

and outward asking and desiring for sEshavritthi; I am

uttering this verse outwardly for the name sake. Be it

so. EVEN THEN, please bless me even such a deceitful

statement of mine itself as an excuse, and oh Lord!

The One who mercifully and compassionately lifted the

BhUmA dEvi of immense patience and helped us! With the

same daya, compassion, and ocean of mercy, please

correct and transform my mind.

 

As a Sarvagnan [Omniscient] if You have known that

with no intense desire – I asked for in the earlier

verses for incrementing sEshavritthi, then can I

negate the same and argue and I have to accept that I

did NOT surely have such an intense desire for the

same. Even if it is so, I AM now seeking the same for

purer mind and more intense desire developed in me. I

am now praying to You and pleading for the

transformation of my mind with more intense seeking.

Others should not later blame You that in spite of my

asking for the intense desire, You did not grant me…

Please Bless me by transforming the mind so.

 

Also, You are VaraahaswarUpi; having lifted the BhUmA

Devi from all troubled waters mercifully and saved

us.. With same extent of dayA, please bless me so..

There in Varaaha avathAram, You had mentioned to BhUmA

Devi- that when one performs Sarnagathi at Your Lotus

Feet in stable mind, then at the end of his life, You

would by Yourself take mercifully to Your Abode. With

the same dayA, please bless me now for the

transformation of my mind if You think it is not yet

purer and am seeking not with intense desire. Even if

You think this prayer for transformation of mind

itself is STILL NOT with intense desire, EVEN then,

please bless me for the transformation of mind – can

also be a different kind of interpretation for the

word “api” here.
