Guest guest
Sri Parthasarathi thunai Srimathe ramanujaya Namaha Srimad Vara Vara MunayE namaha Sri Vanachala mahA munayE namaha Srivaishnavas, generally have different rules and regulations always different from that followed by normal folks/bhakthas. We have already seen one such exemption about anthima smriti. Next in this posting we will see one more exemption. Before starting anything it is common practice to verify if the time is ok. We fix good time and good day for any of our auspicious occasions. To our wonder nowadays half of the babies are born through operations without normal deliveries and hence people fix up good time and good stars for the birth of the baby. How is good time/day/star etc determined? It is done in accordance with the specifications in the jyOdhisha sastra, one of the six veda angas. But according to Srivaishnavas everything is emperuman so for them the time that helps them to attain bhagavat anubhavam, the day that takes them near to emperuman’s thiruvadi and the star that blessed them with the satsangam of bhagavatas is the good time/day/star. Our sampradyam flourished due to the guru paramparai. The first acharya nAthamunigal, who put the milestone to the Srivaishnava community, was born on a Tuesday. Do we consider Tuesday as an auspicious day but it is surely auspicious to Srivaishnavas. We don’t do anything on ashtami and navami but we celebrate the Krishna janmAstami and rAma navami. Similarly lowkikas skip margazhi month for any auspicious activities but that is the month very much liked by our dear lord. That is why parthasarathi says, “mAsAnAm margaseershOham”. The lord doesn’t like the things people keep it for themselves when something is out of the ahankara/mamakara of jeevatmas emperuman cherishes to possess the same. That is why prapannas shed their ahankara/mamakaram and do sharanagati under the divine feet of emperuman. Then emperuman accepts the jeevatma with full happiness. Only when drowpathi left both her hands and shouted for help krishna came to her rescue. Only when gajendran left his efforts and shouted “AdimoolamE” did varadhan rush to help gajendran. So leaving all our efforts and falling into the divine feet of emperuman with ultimate faith is most important. For that is there any necessity to wait for a good auspicious time? If someone is drowning will we wait for a good time to save him? Before the time comes he will be dead so it is wise to save him immediately. That is our case too; we are drowning in the ocean of samsAram so we have to be saved immediately. That is why our acharyas never wait for a good day/time to do samAsrayanam. The best time is the instant when the shisya goes near the acharya and requests him to do pancha samskAram. The acharya rushes to save the jeevatma immediately so that he doesn’t change mind. This time when we are saved from samsAram and attain bhagavat anubhavam has to be surely celebrated. That is why thirumazhisai azhvar says, “andru nAn pirandhilEn pirandha pin marandhilEn” Andal therefore shows her special gratitude to the time that has helped her to attain bhagavat anubhavam in the very start of her thiruppavai. She adorns the month and paksham as “marghazhi thingal madhiniraindha nannAlAl”.
