Guest guest
Sri Parthasarathi thunai Srimathe ramanujaya Namaha Srimad Vara Vara MunayE namaha Sri Vanachala mahA munayE namaha SriVaishnavas are parama sAtvikas. But does that mean that we have to keep num always? No there are exceptional cases. SriNandagopan was a very soft person. He never even stepped over a grass “Srinandagopar munbu pul poondugalaikooda midhikka mAttAr” Sri Perivachan pillai equates nandagopar with another bhagavata SiriyAththAn in his vyakhyAnam as, “nam siriyAththAnaipOlE Anrusamsya pradhAnarAiththu pOruvadhu” SiriyAththAn was a great Srivaishnavite who followed Ahimsa to the core. But the same nandagopar what did he do after the birth of balarama and krishna? Andal says, “koorvEl kodunthozhilan” He due to the fear of any harm coming to his kids held a sharp weapon in his hand and stayed awake taking care of the kids. Even if a small ant came near the kids then nandagopar will jump to kill it just like pouncing on a lion. But is this not against the sastras that say, “na himsyAt sarva bhoothAni” [don’t trouble any living being] but doesn’t the very same sastram say, “agneeshOmeeyam pasumAlabEtha [kill the four footed animal in the agneeshoma yAgam]. So whatever prani himsa is done for the sake of us is called as pApam (sin) whereas if we do the same for the sake of emperuman and in the fear of preventing the harm done to him it is not a sin but our duty. It is clearly said, “mannimiththam krutham pApamapi punyAya kalpathE” [what ever papam done for my sake is considered only to be a punyam] That is why Sri thondaradipodi Azhvar who was a parama sAtvikar says, “ninpAL poruppariyagal pEsil…..koodumEl thalaiyai aruppadE karumam kandAy” So if someone talks ill of emperuman and his bhakthas then we have all the right to go to any extent to save our dear lord and his devotees. Andal’s thiruppavai is not mere a bhakthi hymn but it shows how each and every Srivaishnavite should live his life.
