Sri:

Srimathe Ramanujaya Nama:

Thiruppavai pasuram 1: 'yasOdhai iLam singam'

Seeing this phrase, Bhattar would say 'singak kurugu'.

kurugu means offspring (singak kururgu - lion's cub).

Bhattar said that 1) He is a lion because He would act

like a fearless and pride filled lion in front of His

mother Yasoda as she would shower on Him nothing but love

(as opposed to Sri Nandagopar who is the father and as

such Krishna would act with modesty in front of him -

'nandagOpan kumaran' versus 'yasOdhai iLam singam').

2) He is a cub to match the youth of the girls coming

to see Him ('siRumiyar').

Azhvar Emberumanar Jeeyar Thiruvadigale Sharanam
