She received her Master of Arts in Sanskrit Language and Literature and in Hindi Language and Literature from Andhra University, India where she graduated first in class. Dr. Kandala was given two Gold Medals for her excellence in academics. She has also received numerous academic awards and fellowships, which includes the University Grants Commission Research Associateship and the Sir William Jones Research Fellowship at the Asiatic Society of India. She was the Honorary Principal at the Academy of Sanskrit Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Calcutta.
