Swamy Desikan and Srimad Bhagavad Ramanujar:

Swamy Desikan's asAdArana Achraya bhakthi towards Sri BhashyakArar is

apparent in all his works. Though his rahasya granthas are loaded

with SribhAshyam interpretations we will not refer to them here.

However it will be refreshing to visit his sthOthrapAdams to realize

how misleading it is to separate him or his followers from Sri

BhashyakArar

My young years have been spent drinking (enjoying) the sweet taste

of Sri Bhashyakarar's Srisukthams. My hair turned grey. At this time,

I pray to you, Prabho, for your Grace to let me live in a kshetram

like Srirangam where I could be near those who wish only goodwill

(paraspara hitham) for others.

Eventhough this sthOthram is composed by a less qualified person,

the great achAryArs who are immersed in the saranAgathi thathvam

will accept this work since I belong to the madappalli sampradAyam.

Swamy here traces sambandam to Sri PraNathArthiharar who mastered

SriBhashyam, doing madappalli kainkaryam to Sri Bhashyakarar. We can

feel this sentiment again in ParamapadasOpAnam:

AdarpuL arasilum andanar mattilum inn amuda

kadarpalli thannilum kAviri ullam uganda pirAn

IdaipillaiyAhi uRaithathu uRaikkum yathivaranAr

Madaippalli manam yem vArthaiyul manniyathE

PerumAl chose to leave all His abodes including KsheerApdi to lie

down in the middle of KAveri river. Sri RanganAthan who was so dear

to our Bhashyakarar, gave us the Sruthi vAkyams as Kannan which was

preached by our yathirAjar. Swami desikan's vAk comes out with the

fragrance of Udaiyavar's kitchen. That sarkaraipongal made by

madaipalli AchAn had an aroma unique to sruthi vAkyams. When we stand

before periya perumal in gayathri mandapam the smell we experience is

very seductive. This fragrance is beyond the smell emanating from

ganda-parimala dravyams. Sruthi sabdam has a very pleasing fragrance

which not only cures rogAs but blesses the person experiencing it

with satva gunas. Remember we get Periya Perumal's sEvai under

vEdasringa vimAnam. Our swamy Desikan's outpourings are based on Sri

Bhashyakarar's aruLvAkku which has sruthi pramAnams.

Sri Ranganatha ! using Arjuna in Krishnavatharam and Vibhishana in

Ramavatharam you showed saranAgathi as a means to Moksham. You gave

your word to Sri Bhashyakarar that SriVaishnavas having sambandam to

Sri Bhashyakarar will be granted moksham. Having great pride in

belonging to this sampradayam I pray for your Grace. KavithArkika

simham, sAtvika chakravarthy shows his pride in having Sri RamAnuja

sambandam in his own unique way.

Here, Swamy compares the AchArya paramparai to a diamond necklace.

The middle pendant of such a haaram will be big and shiny. Sri

Bhagavath Ramanujar occupies such a place with thEjas superior to

that of the Sun -"nAyakaSri" what a beutiful expression !

*** Subhamasthu ***

In our daily life we come across differences in our life style and

in the observation of anushtAnams even among the same group of

people. For example vratha dinangal and jayanthi nirnayam differ

among vaishnavas. We refer to them as ' matathu sampradAyam', '

Andavan Asramathu sampradAyam', 'Srirangam sampradAyam' etc. This

does not mean the individual groups are disassociating from Srimad

BhashyakArar or Swami Desikan. All going through panchasamskAram are

given ManthropadEsam with Sri Bhashyakarar taniyan. We do not come

across a single AchAryan in either kalai who would remove Sri

Bhashyakarar from guruparamparai. Bad apples are there in every

basket. This is not exclusive to one group. we should excercise

extreme caution not to make a srivaishnavan sad in an act of

disapproving those we do not like. Nrisimhan did not appear to punish

the wicked but appeared to ptotect His bhakthan.

I committ countless sins every moment. If I try to do prayachiththam

for those sins as prescribed by sastras again additional sins are

earned in not doing them right. Not knowing a way out I approach

you, RangaPrabho . Only you can help me with your sankalpam.
