Sri vAnAchala mahA munayE Namaha

Note: Today is a divine day in thiruvallikeni, Davanotsavam for Sri

Mannathan and vedavalli thayar along with acharya Swamy manavala

mAmunikal. Morning thirumanjanam for the divine couples along with

the lord’s acharya Swamy mAmunikal was held and then the divine

couples with the acharya gave darshan inside the thayar sannadhi. In

the evening, davanotsavam with be celebrated. On the panguni uttaram

day, we all can have darshan of the divine couples along with swamy

emberumAnAr and today is the day when we can have the divine darshan

with the purushakaram of Swamy mAmunikal. Ranganathan gave the

ubhaya vibhoothi to Swamy emperumAnAr and made him “udayavar” but the

same ranganatha gave a special thaniyan and also his adisesha peedam

to Swamy mAmunikal and made himself to be his disciple. So is it not

great to have the divine darshan of the couples with the purushakaram

of swamy mAmunikal? Let us all now enjoy that mannathan along with

the mangalasasanam of thirumazhisai piran.

Paasuram-35

“thAlAl vulagam alandha asaivE kol,

vAlAkidandharulum vAi thiravAn-neelOdam

vandhalaikkum mAmayilai mAvallikEniyAn

IyintalaivAi nAgaththanai”

In the 31st paasuram, azhvar got vexed with the acts of the lowkikas,

who have forgotten emperuman “perumAnai EththAdha pEygAl” The

following paasurams were on the same lines. In this paasuram,

thirumazhisai piran feels, “Oh! When I don’t have enough time to talk

about the wonderful acts of emperuman why talk about other things?”

and hence azhvar proceeds to talk about the great acts of emperuman.

(thAlAl vulagam alandha asaivE kol) “vadivinai ellA malarmagal maRRai

nilamagal pidikkum melladiyai” (thiruvai 9-2-10) Emperuman’s

thiruvadi is so soft that even if piratti presses it with love still

it becomes red. With the same divine feet emperuman measured

forests, mountain, rocks and valleys due to which his divine body

became tired. Oh Lord! Are you lying down in silence without moving

only due to this tiredness?

(thAlAl) Just due to your relation with all the jeevas you placed your

divine feet on all of them to uplift them. You were the one who

created everything in this world not stopping with that did you want

to uplift them by placing your divine feet on top of them?

(vulagam) Did you undergo such hardships for this cruel world?

(alandha asaivE kol) Due to azhvar’s deep love for the lord (astAnE

baya sankai) he feels that the lord (ayarvaru amarargal adhipathi)

has become tired due to these acts.

(vAlA kidandharulum) Emperuman is not moving this side or that side.

He lays still. We missed seeing the lord measuring the worlds but

can’t we at least enjoy his divine thirumeni moving?

(vAi thiravAn) He doesn’t talk words that are very valuable to his devotees.

“AsayA yathi vA rama: puna: sapthApayEthiti “ [i waited there for a

long time with the wish that rama could call me again] “priyavAdhee”

(neelOdam vandhalaikkum mAmayilai mAvallikEniyAn) Emperuman lies in

thiruvallikeni, a part of mylapore very close to the sea. Since this

is a place where emperuman reclines with love, the waves come to touch

his divine feet and like a mother tapping the child with her hands to

make it sleep the waves touch the divine feet of the lord.

(neelOdham) When we all feel tired we relax in the beach. Both the

fresh air and the serene atmosphere of the water and waves remove all

our tension and tiredness. Sri Mannathan, got tired after measuring

the worlds and choose this place close to the beach to relax.

(iyinthalai vAi nAgaththanai) To relax we need a good bed and also a

shelter to protect us from sunlight and rain. Emperuman is very

lucky. He has a two in one/multipurpose bed, Adiseshan who acts as

both a bed and a protective shelter. Moreover this shelter has its

own capacity to even protect the lord from any enemy. Adisesha is

always active to protect the lord (due to his ‘parivu’ (atmost care)

for the almighty)
