Guest guest Posted April 18, 2005 Report Share Posted April 18, 2005 Sri: Srimathe Ramanujaya Nama: One time Andal, Bhattar's mother, performed upavAsa (fasting)during Vaikunta Ekadasi day; and on the next day (Dvadasi) morning, she requested Bhattar to give her the divine water from the Lord's lotus feet, so she could conclude her fasting. Bhattar replied "Within this great day ('periya thirunAL'), how did you find this Ekadasi day?" Periya ThirunAL refers to the Thiru Adhyayana Utsavam that happens for twenty days at Srirangam (and other divyadesams). It happens ten days in front of Vaikunta Ekadasi day and ten days after it. Bhattar is wondering how amidst this great festival and the immense enjoyment of the Lord during it, she was able to realize that an ekadasi occurred in-between and that she had to fast on that day.
