Dear Devotees :

You might recall that the various sishyAs of Ahobila Matam completed earlier

this year , a Kaimkaryam to provide Silver cladding for the PoorvAchArya PaadhukAs

of Ahobila Matam Jeeyars following the Niyamanam of the Current Jeeyar ,

HH SrI NaarAyaNa YathIndhra MahA Desikan . The revered Jeeyar's intent was

to protect the precious PoorvAchArya PaadhukAs against the adversities

of weather ( Heat , cold , humidity , insects ) encountered during

the rigorous

sanchArams of the Azhagiya Singars from one end of India to the other .

Since theses PoorvAchArya PaadhukAs recieve Thirumanjanam every DhvAdasi Tithi ,

these PaadhukAs have to be with the Jeeyars always and have to travel

with them

everywhere . This has been the situation for more than 600 years .

The digital images of the PaadhukAs assembled for their Thirumanjanam on May 5 , 2005

was sent to us by Sriman Diwakar Kannan , who had the bhAgyam to be at SrI Matam

on that day.

The URL for the images of these Silver-clad Paadhukais is :

You will see that all of the Paadhukais in this assembly except that of the founding Jeeyar ,

HH Sri Adhi VaNN SaThakOpa Jeeyar are in pairs . There is only one Paadhukai for

the Founding Jeeyar of Ahobila Matam that is used today for

AarAdhanam & AbhishEkam .

The Kumizh (Yanthrikaa) for HH the First Jeeyar is also missing .

A dear devotee asked the question : " why is there only one Paadhukai for

Adhi VaNN SaThakOpa Jeeyar , whereas all the other Jeeyars have both of their

Paadhukais . Is there any significance to it ? " .

Yes , there is a reason for this uniqueness .

Over the centuries , the second (Wodden) PaadhukA of HH Aadhi VaNN SaThakOpa

Jeeyar became splintered from repeated AbhishEkams and aarAdhanams . Being of wood ,

it was hard to proect them against humidity , heat and insects especially during the rigorous

sanchArams of the Azhagiya Singars , who have ascended the throne of

SrI Matam .

Fortunately for us , one of the two divine Paadhukais of HH Adhi VaNN SaThakOpa

Jeeyar was preserved and protected by the AchAryAs of Sri Matam .

During the early part of this year , there was a thought to make two Small

silver Paadhukais out of the existing single Paadhukai .This idea was rejected

in favor of keeping the single Paadhukai by Prakrutham SrImath Azhagiya Singar .

The possible creation of the two Paadhukais out of the single Paadhukai would have

meant the breaking up of the existing Paadhukai . That possibility was considered

and rejected by Srimath Azhagiya Singar . That is the reason why we have the sevai of

a single Paadhukai of the Founding Jeeyar at SrI Matam .

All the Paadhukais of the PoorvAchAryAs have been protected now against

the vagaries of time and weather thanks to the foresight of the most merciful

Prakrutham Azhagiya Singar .

RE: Fw: paduka aradhanam photos

Dear Sadagopan Mama,

Adiyen has a question, why there is only one Padukai for HH Sri Adivan

Sadagopan and rest of the acharyas Padukai appear in pairs ? Is there

any significance associated with that ?

Please clarify.

Dasan,

Arun.
