thiru viNNagarath thEn - part 1 - "viNNappith"thEn" (Introduction)

Dear bAgawathAs,

adiyEn is beginning to write a mini-series on Lord Sri

Oppiliappan by bagawath sankalpam. adiyEn is pleased to inform you

that Sri U.VE Oppiliappan kOil Sadagopan swAmi will also join in

writing about these outpourings . The series is something special to all

the

Oppilippan bakthAs & kaliyan abhimAnis. Some years ago, It occurred

that certain pAsurams of Sri thirumangai on Sri Oppiliappan are very

soggy, extremely wet, viscous, and immersed in an emotional outpouring.

We found that such an emotional pouring is extremely sweet (in tamil

thehattiyathu) and nectariferous. Sri thirumangai AzhwAr uses the

word "thEn" (honey) 21 times in this "pathigam" alone while doing

his "naicchi anusanthAnam" and other AngAs of prapatthi and pleading

to Our Lord Sri Boomi dEvi samEtha Sri Oppiliappan for His divine

help. It is all the more fitting to call our Lord and the majestic

"Sri than oppAr illapan" as "thiru viNNagarath thEn" or the honey of

thiru viNNagaram such that even the nectar "amirtham" will feel

jealous about HIM and HIS sweetness.

It is believed that a normal cycle of births for a human lasts 21

births prior to him doing saranAgathi at the sweet feet of our Lord

Sri Oppiliappan. Sri "thEnappan" (Sri Oppiliappan) only can salvage

this jeevAthmA that was entangled in this web of samsAram each time.

This jeevAthmA was thirsty every time and had sought for some relief

from samsAric drought and only an ocean of mercy can quench and have

this jeevAthmA carry on its journey towards the Lord. It seems it

was the "thEnappan", ie.. our Lord Sri Oppiliappan who stood as the

honey (amirtham) everytime for 21 consecutive times and rescued the

poor jeevAthmA from its samsAric thirst. Ordinary water or anyother

drink may have quenched a thirst. However when someone prays to the

Lord by reciting these 21 verses, it seems the Lord provides them

with this nectarine honey to quench their thirst.

While we look at our mEyavan, Lord Sri Oppiliappan, our eyes

have a feast . Pala kOdi nilavukaL sErnthu ivar kaN Anathu pOlum. HE

is so majestic and appears as if HE is a hive full of honey. If we

say HIS thiru nAmam once, our vAyil "thEn" oorum. If we keep looking

at him our stomach is filled up with honey and so on. If we recite

these verses we are soaked, drenched and drowned in AzhwAr's

anubavam. When adiyEn see this incomparable beauty (than oppAr

illAtha vadivazhagudaiya varigaL) of these 11 verses, adiyEn's

anubavam is making me drool for the taste or rasAnubAvam of AzhwAr.

These 11 verses will be disseminated into small drops like drizzlie .

Please forgive adiyEn for these small dribblings. This is adiyEn's

viNNappam.
