Guest guest
Please Note that Here is some information which is the Heart of the matter I have got from Ms. Jayshree Saranathan. I think this is very important and we should explain this to our children and others on why the Sumangali Prarthanai is done. I am sure the next time there is a Sumangali Prarthanai there will be more dedication and more meaning to it. Discover Find restaurants, movies, travel and more fun for the weekend. But I wonder if the 'why' part has another explanation. Normally, we are supposed to pay our obesiance to pithrus everyday as part of Pancha yajna. Our maternal ancestors are also covered in that prayer. But as it is, there is no prayer form exclusively for maternal or female ancestors. I think we remember them and pray for their blessings before starting any shubha-karyam in our houshold. As such it is not merely to honour them but to seek their blessings, that we conduct this function. But unfortunately many a time it turns out to be a gift (of saree) to the sister (naatthanaar) and is seen as varumbadi by them. Since the deeper feelings for the well being for the one who is doing it is not always found, I have recommended to many who used to complaint about it when they seek my advice on astrology, to choose a deserving outsider who would sincerely pray for their well being and make them the main person in the function though others in the family are invited to take part. The purpose of the entire function is to invoke the blessings of female ancestors who departed as sumangalis (as embodiment of Lakshmi)and pray for their guidance and good-will for the function that is to ensue (marriage or poonul etc) Kindly pardon me for any wrong information in this regard, sincerely, jayasree saranathan.
