Guest guest
Dear SrEvaishNavites, As seen in the first thiru-voi-mozhi of Seventh ten, the sensory organs torment even thos who serve the supreme Lord. Sri thirumangai mannan underlines this fact and appeals to the Lord of Oppiliappan. This is described by Sri Sadagopan swAmy hereunder. dAsan vanamamalai padmanabhan SrI: mallA-mallamaruL mALa mall-adartha mallA Let us enjoy today the sixth Paasuram , where Kaliyan appeals to HrusheekEsan , the Lord who is the controller of all Indhriyams for help to overcome the misery of the Indhriyams . Through the use of the word "Mallaa " in the Paasuram , Kaliyan aims his appeal to HrusheekEsan or the Isan of Hrusheekams ( Indhriyams) . " IndhriyANAm niyanthruthvAth HrusheekEsa: prakeertthitha: " is the definition for HrusheekEsan . Here is the Paasuram : kallaa eimpulankaL avai kaNDavARu seyya-killEn Mallaa ! mall amaruL mallar maaLa malladarttha Mallaa ! maallal-amm-seer mathiL Ilankai azhittha Villaa! NinnadainthEn ThiruviNNagar MeyavanE ! (Extended Meaning) : Oh Lord of ThiruviNNagar ! adiyEn could not go along with the machinations of the panchEndhriyams driven by their poorva vAsanais. They are ancient in origin . They thrive on dhushta vyApArams that lead to their dhurvAsanais . adiyEn is dismayed and repeleld by their persistent attacks to steer adiyEn towards aabhAsa vyApArams . Oh RishikEsA ! You are known for Your mighty valour to defeat the fearsome wrestlers of the KamsA's court with the name of ChANUran and Mushtikan . Your valor in handling KodhaNdam to destroy the fortress city of LankA girdled by the ocean is legendary . Oh Lord of such undisputed valour ! You must help me to overcome the traps that adiyEn's PanchEndhriyams set for me incessantly . They will not learn anything and change their ways. Oh HrisheekEsaA ! You have to bless adiyEn with the arrow of vivEkam to control these pestering PanchEndhriyams . Please empower adiyEn ! Special Notes : The Naalu Kavi PaNDithar , Kaliyan ( Scholar adept at creating the four kinds of poetry ) thrills our ears with the rhythm and alliterations in this Paasuram . He disparagingly refers to PanchEndhriyams as "Kallaa EimpulankaL ". They are beyond education and training . They do not benefit from learning about what is to be learned and keep on doing lowly and forbidden things ( nishittha kaamya karmAs ) . They keep on generating ruchi for SamsAram and make the Jeevan a Nithya SamsAri . To control and keep at bay these "Kallaa EimpulankaL " , the Jevan needs the help of HrusheekEsan . Kaliyan invokes the presence of the Lord as " Mallaa" in his struggle agaist these "kallaa EimpulankaL ". Kaliyan reminds the Lord that His valor was well known both in Raama , KrishNa avathArams . In KrishNAvathAram , our Lord entered the wrestling ring ( mall amaruL ) and destroyed the mighty wrstlers of Kamsan ( Mallar maaLa mall adartthAi ). The way in which Kaliyan weaves a musical tapestry around the word " mal " is most strike worthy . Mallaa ( HrusheekEsA ) ! You entered the wrestling ring for a fight ( mall amaruL puhunthAi ) with the Mallars . You wanted to destroy the powerful and well trained Mallars and send a message to Your uncle , Kamsan about Your valour ( Mall amaruL mallar maaLa Mall adartthAi ) . Mall here means the prowess of the wrestlers . adartthAi means destroyed . " Mallaa ! Mall amaruL mall adarttha Mallaa ! The first Mallaa refers to HrushekEsan , who controls the Indhriyams . The last Mallaa stands for the power of the Lord , who destroyed the great wrestlers like ChANUrA . In RaamAvathAram , KODhaNdapANi used His mighty bow to destroy the fortified city of LankA protected by the sea all around . As Raghu veeran and RaNa dheeran , He destroyed the aparAdhi , RaavaNan and his entourage ( KumbhakarNan , Indhrajith , Moola Balam et al) effortlessly . Kaliyan enjoys RaamAvathAran , ThiruviNNagarappan , and recalls His valor : " Mallal amm seer mathiL neer Ilankai azhittha Villaa " . Mallal means the most famous . The city of LankA is known for its most beautiful ramparts ( mallal amm seer mathiL ) surrounded by the ocean ( neer soozh Ilankai ) . Our Lord destroyed that city and its king and came to be addressed as "Ilankai azhittha villaa " . Vijaya Raaghavaa ! adiyEn has now arrived at Your lotus feet seeking protection from the " kaNDavARu seyyum eimpulankaL ". ThiruviNNagar MeyavanE ! Mallaa ! Ilankai azhittha villaa ! mallar maaLa malladarttha Mallaa ! Kallaa EimpulankaL avai kaNDavARu seyya killEn . ( athanAl ) Villaaa ! NinnadainthEn . Raksha Maam HrusheekEsa !
