RangarAmAnuja MahAdEsikan, the Sapthathi celebrations

in the Washington DC area turned out to be a truly

memorable one.

 

VAlmIkI RAmAyaNam and PAdukA Sahasra PArAyaNam started

10 days before the thirunakshatram. On the morning of

the 12th of June, more than 40 bhagavathas from around

the area had gathered to celebrate the

Sapthathi mahothsavam. Traditional sEvAkAlam and

ArAdhanam to perumAL were the notable highlights of

the first session. This was followed by dEsika

prabhandha pArAyaNam, thirulankAram, Mantrapushpam and

thiruamudhu.

The much awaited Sambhavana krama was then observed

with grandeur much like in India with one of the

bhagavathas holding the "tambulam" over his head. This

was followed by ghoshti sambhavanam and Acharya

vAzhithirunAmams and Desika mangalam. This event was

no exception in receiving zealous participation from

shishyas and abhimanies of various illustrious Acharya

paramparas, and in chanting their Thanians and

vAzhithirunAmams.

Bhagavadh Theertham along with SatakOpam and

SrImushnam SrImadh Andavan's PAduka thIrtham were

served amidst the chanting of Swami DEsika stotras

like Hayagreeva stotram, SrI SthuthI, KAmAsikAshtakam,

GOpAla

Vimshathi and SudarshanAshtakam.

 

Traditional Bhagavadh nAmasankIrthanam and gentle

lullaby marked the end of ParyankAsanam to the Lord.

Prasadam relished by the Lord was then offered to all

the devotees and the option of traditional serving on

plantain leaves highlighted the festivity and the

uniqueness of our culture. Many thanks to our Lord

for sending us a great Acharya and for giving us the

opportunity to celebrate thirunakshatrams of this

kind.
