Sri:

GodhAm udhArAm sthuma: ( Let us eulogize the Generous GodhA )

Dear BhakthAs of GodhA PirAtti :

Today is the Sacred SravaNam day . There are 45 days left

until Aadi Pooram Uthsavam . The Mutthangi SamarpaNam

Kaimkaryam needs your help thru participation . Please join .

Today we will continue the study of the importance of Mutthu ( Pearls)

and the specail role of MUtthangi from the MukthA Paddhathi slOkams

of Sri NigamAntha MahA Desikan .

Slokam 5 of MUkthA Paddhathi

****************************************

There is a golden kavacham that ANDAL has . The Mutthangi is adorned

over that Kaanchana (Golden) Kavacham .

Swamy Desikan's similie is adaptable here :

" ThvAm amitha: nihithA nava moukthikAvali: MurArE:

PadhAsrithAnAm nakha ChandramasAm prathimachandra

paramparEva BhAthi "

Oh Mutthangi ! On You are enmeshed with the radiant pearls .

Your Lord RangamannAr , who rushed from Srirangam to marry You

is standing right next to you .The reflections from the ten toe nails of

Your Lord seems to have taken the form of the jyOthi of the pearls adorning

Your Mutthangi ( ChandramasAm prathimAchandra paramparEva bhAthi ) .

The rows of the new pearls of the Mutthangi seems to be covered on

all four sides by the reflections of the Kaanthi of the Lord's nails

to give the pearls their illustrious white radiance ( amitha: nihithaa

nava moukthikAvali: ).

Slokam 6 of Mukthaa Paddhathi (Adapted meaning )

*******************************************************************

Ganga river arose from the Lord's Thiruvadi during ThrivikramAvathAram .

As it descended from Sathya LOkam and reached the Himaalayan mountains ,

it has a sparkling white pure color like the pearls adorning the Mutthangi .

That white color of the sacred Ganga river originates from the white lustre of

the toe nails of the Lord . It is as though the white lustre of the Lord's nails

gets spray painted on the Ganga river The whiteness resembling the Moon beams

is acquired by GangA , which is the same as the matchless lustre of the pearls

found in the Mutthangi of ANDAL ( SadhA Bhavadheeya maha: churithA

HaripadhOdhbhavayA surapurApagayA vapushAmapi samathAm upaithi) .

The body of Ganga and the rows of pearls achieve equanimity in their

appearances .

SlOkam 7 of MukthA Paddhathi ( Adapted Meaning )

*****************************************************************

Here Swamy Desikan continues with the analogy of the white radiance

of the pearls with the lustre of the Lord's toe nails . Adapted to the Mutthangi ,

we can imagine that the beauty of the rows of pearls in this aabharaNam

is like the beauty of the new set of stars residing in the chandra maNDalam of

the toe nails of the Lord's lotus feet ( Vimalaa Tava Moukthika aavali:

charaNaaravindha Nakha chandramaNDala praNaya upayAtha nava taarakaa

ruchim samudhvahathy ) . The rows of pearls ( the stars) are seen in that

chandra MaNDalam of the toe nails of the Lord out of their love for the Lord's

Thiruvadi .

The darkness that envelops Bhaddha Jeevans is their ajn~Anam and

vipareetha Jn~Anam . The chandrika ( the Moon's cool and bright light )

is the lustre from the pearls on the Angi of our Mother Andal and Her

KaruNA KatAksham .

SlOkam 8 of the MukthA Paddhathi ( Extrapolated Meaning )

****************************************************************************

Here , Swamy Desikan continues with the analogy of the pearls

having the white lustre similar to the sparkling waters of GangA .

Srimath Andavan is fond of comparing these pearls to the blemishless

paasurams of Swamy NammAzhwAr . When one enjoys the sevai of

Mutthangi with its rows of blemishless pearls , one is reminded of

aakAsa Gangai and Swamy NammAzhwAr's Paasurams that purify

the world with their association ." MayUkha PaaNDaraa " , the white lustre

( Suddha Sathva mayam ) of the pearls and the pure waters of GangA

(Sura Nadhi) are eulogized here .

SlOkam 9 of the Mukthaa Paddhathi ( Extrapolated Meaning )

*****************************************************************************

Oh ANDAL adorning the Mutthu angi ! Those who have the darsanam of

Your subhAsraya ThirumEni clad in the Noothana aabharaNam of

Pearl kavacham ( GodhE ! yE bhajanthy Bhavatheem ) experience

growth in their Jn~Anam about Tatthva thrayams and reach Sadhgathi

( tE Tava moukthika dhyuthi vikalpa Gangayeiva mouLi chandraSakalasya

chandrikAm vardhayanthi) . Swamy Desikan says that those who meditate

on ANDAL unceasingly attain growth in the Jn~Anam from the chandrika

( nilavu = jyOthi ) of the pearls . The little nilavu from the crescent Moon

on Lord SivA's head grows to bigger dimensions .

SlOkam 10 of MukthA Paddhathi ( Extrapolated Meaning )

***************************************************************************

Lord Sivan and BrahmA , who are prone to be under the influence

of RajO and TamO guNams have the darsanam of ANDAL adorning

the Mutthangi . What is the effect of such a darsanam ? They are

normally karma vasyALs and desire the high offices of Brahma Pattam

and Siva Pattam and engage in KarmAs ( penance) & perform YaagAs )

to attain them . When they encounter the JyOthi of the pearls ( Paasurams

of Swamy NammAzhwAr ) , their RajO and TamO guNams get diminished

and their Jn~Anam about the dhivya dampathis increases manyfold .

( Thvadheeyai: Mukthaa mayUkhai: avatamsa chandram aapUrayishyathi ).
