“koNdu kudankAl mEl vaiththa kuzhaviyAi

taNda varakkan thalai thAlAl-paNdeNNi

pOm kumaran nirkkum pozhil venkata malaikkE

pOm kumararulleer purindhu”

 

“Why do the brahma rudras surrender to the divine feet of emperuman?”

Those so-called intellectual people lose their wisdom at many times

and put themselves to difficulties. It is only bhagavan Sriman

Narayanan who comes to their rescue even at those times. ‘So Oh

innocent folks go now immediately when you have strength in body and

mind and surrender to the divine feet of emperuman at thirumalai’

advices azhvar.

 

(koNdu…kumaran) All the azhvars have a divine speciality. They are

praised as “pEsitrE pEsum Eka kandargal”. Here thirumazhisai piran

reiterates the episode earlier stated by poigai azhvar and peyazhvar

as,

“AmE amararkku ariya adhu nirka name arigiRpOm nannenjE-poomEya

mAdhavaththOn thAl paNindha vAlarakkan neeNmudiyai pAdhamaththAl

enninAn paNbhu” – Mudhal thiruvandhAdhi

“Ayindha arumaraiyOn nAnmugaththOn nankurangil vAindha kuzhaviyAi

vAlarakkan- Aindha mudippOdu moondrEzh endru enninAn Aindha adippOdhu

nankat karan” – MoondrAm thiruvandhAdhi

 

The Episode: Ravana performed a cryptic penance to attain a boon from

brahma. The supreme lord (sarveshvaran) meanwhile took the form of a

small child and posed to be sleeping in the lap of brahma. Slowly

emperuman scratched the heads of ravana and cautioned brahma that

ravana –dasakandan-with ten heads will prove to be a dreaded killer

in future and emperuman will take ramavatara to pluck his heads.

After cautioning brahma, emperuman vanished from the sight.

 

Though this episode doesn’t have any proof in the itihasas or puranas,

azhvars have referred to this incident in their paasurams perceiving

the same from the supernatural intelligence bestowed on them by the

supreme lord (“mayarvaru madhinalam”) out of his ultimate grace.

 

(koNdu kadankAl mEl vaiththa kuzhaviyAi) Assuming the form of a small child on the lap;

 

(taNda arakkan….) Rakshasan, who has to be banished.

 

(paNdeNNipOm kumaran nirkkum) That very lord, who enacted the role of

a small child and cautioned brahma now stands in thirumalai;

 

(pozhil vEnkata malaikkE) that divine hills filled with beautiful gardens/greenery.

 

(kumararulleer purindhu pOm) Go to thirumalai before old age. Since

it is tough terrain it will not be possible to climb the hill after

an age. So rush to thirumalai while young (“kilaroli elamai

keduvadhan munnam”)

 

(kumararulleer) “bAlyEna tishtAsEth” All intellectual people are like

kids in heart. So now rush to thirumalai immediately.
