Guest guest
Sri Parthasarathi thunai Srimathe ramanujaya Namaha Srimad Vara Vara munayE Namaha Sri vAnAchala mahA munayE Namaha Paasuram-50 “kooRRamum sARA koduvinaiyum sARA tee mARRamum sARA vagai arindhEn-ARRam karaikidakkum kaNNan kadal kidakkum mAyan vuraikidakkum vullath thenakku” In the previous paasuram, azhvar advised all to chant the divine names of emperuman thereby fulfilling the purpose of being blessed with a mouth. Our immediate question will be what will we attain by doing so? So now azhvar continues to say the benefit he obtained by chanting the divine thirunAmams of emperuman. (kooRRamum sARA vagai arindhEn) I have found the way to get released from the clutches of yama. “svapurushamapiveekshya” (Vishnu puranam 3-9-14) “thirambEnmin kandeer” (nan. Thiru.68) “kedumidarAyavellAm kesavA enna nAlum koduvinai seiyum kooRin tamargalum kurugagillAr” (thiruvai-10-2-1) “nAvalittu vuzhi taruginrOm naman tamar talaigalmeedhE” (thirumAlai-1) “vallalE! Vun tamar kendrum naman tamar kollAr pOl” (Peri.thiru.8-10-7) (koduvinaiyum sARA vagai arindhEn) Moreover I have found the best way to get rid of all the sins that form the root cause for yama to approach me. (tee mARRamum sARA vagaiarindhEn) Now I will not be detained under the following categories viz., dEhAtmAbhimAni-one who considers the body to be the soul (athma); svathanthrAbhimAni- one who considers himself to be independent; devathAntharaparan-one who considers himself to be a slave of some devatha; vishayAntharaparan- one who is involved in passion; upAyAntharaparan- one who depends on the various means for attaining salvation. TeemARRam-anarththam; that which is fruitless. How did azhvar get this clarity? (kadal kidakkum mAyan ARRam karaikidakkum kaNNan vurai kidakkum vullaththu enakku) Emperuman descended to the thirupArkadal (milky ocean) to give divine darshan to the devas (brahma, rudra and others). But ordinary samsaris like us are incapable of reaching the divine abode of emperuman, ksheerAbhdhi. So he further descended to kapistalam, the divya desam in the banks of kaveri as kaNNan. This very lord blessed us all with the charama sloka, “sarva dharmAn parityajya mAm Ekam sharaNam vraja” during the bhAratha yuddha. Azhvar says, “since these divine words of my beloved Parthasarathi/geethAcharyan always reverberates in my mind, now I have found the way out, ‘kooRRamum sArA koduvinaiyum sARA-teemARRamum sARA vagai arindhEn” (kooRRam) fear of yama is for those who are concerned with varnAshrama dharmas. (koduvinai) fear of good and bad deeds is for those who are involved with passion; But for me there is no worry or fear since my mind doesn’t think about varnAshrama dharmas or lowkika pleasures it always circles around the words of parthasarathi. (ARRam karai kidakkum kannan) shows the sowlabhyam, makes him easily accessible by one and all. Parallel to the word “mAm” in charama slokam. (kadal kidakkum mAyan) shows his paratvam filled with jnana and sakthi, making him capable of accomplishing whatever he thinks of. Parallel to the word “aham” in charama slokam.
