Guest guest Posted July 21, 2005 Report Share Posted July 21, 2005 According to the SrIrangam KOil PanchAngam that we follow, the Rug-Yajur Upakarmam falls on the PourNami day, Friday, August 19. On that day SravaNa Nakshathram quits early and Sravishta (avittam) nakshathram takes over. GAyathri japam falls on the Prathamai day, the next day, Saturday, August 20. The star is Sathabhishak. Although we are about 11 hours behind India, the same dates and nakshatrAs will apply. The rest of the details needed for snakalpam are: PArththiva nAma samvathsarE, dhakshiNAyanE, Varsha Ruthou, Simha MAsE, Sukla pakshE, BRugu vAsarE, SRavishtA nakshathra yukthAyAm (on PourNami day) and KRishna pakshE, sthira vAsarE, Sathabhishak nakshthra yukthAyAm (on GAyathri japam day), etc. I have always found it highly satisfying if a few of us could get together and chant GAyathri Mathram in unison. Since the date falls on saturday, it might be feasible to get a group organized in your area and see to it that those who do not have the details get the benefit. I wish, we in USA, cherish such local groups and emphasize the importance of group activities with proper understanding of what we do, and why we do. Hope the above given data helps.
